OK, I have been tearing my hair out on this for TWO YEARS. Data entry took 5-10 seconds per entry. I did it all.

Validate/Super Validate
Bought a faster computer
Bought an NVMe Drive
Reinstalled over and over
Removed Categories
Archived Investment

Once I changed my HOME to a blank page instead of a dashboard, everything got VERY FAST!!

By having the dashboard up, it seems that it updated in real time with every transaction, essentially scanning every one of my tens of thousands of transactions for each data entry! It ran a series of reports (that I didn't want!) between each data entry!

So, change your HOME to a blank screen. The Dashboard is a resource hog. Only open it when you want to see it, don't leave it open!

I normally have the Home tab Classic Dashboard enabled but not displayed at startup. I don't have what I would describe as extreme slowness. I have Quicken set to display the Tax Center when it opens and the time from entering the password to the Tax Center displaying is about 6 sec.

I tried to replicate the slowness you describe by setting the new Dashboard to display at startup, but it only added about 2 sec to my startup time, from 8 sec to 10 in a test copy of my working file. My new dashboard has one each of the 9 cards displayed, with all the date ranges set to their maximum values, typically "Last year." There was no noticeable change in the manual transaction entry time.

I changed Home tab to display a blank Classic dashboard and the startup time dropped from 8 sec to about 5, which I guess might be significant.

What reports are you referring to?

Which dashboard are you referring to? If classic, which cards are selected and what are the settings? If it is the new Dashboard, do you have a lot of replicated cards or something?

You say your file is large. Generally it is the number of transactions that makes the most difference in speed, not the overall file size. If you go to Tools > Account List, what is the maximum number of transactions in a banking/credit card account? Investing account? If the # of transactions column is not displayed, click on Options at the bottom left and select it.
