One of Two Identical Deposits Does Not Download into Quicken [Edited]

My wife and I both receive $668.74 per month, however Quicken will only show the transcation once, therefore I must manually enter the transaction.

Is there a way in which Quicken can download both entries? Does show correctly on our Banking site

Thanks for reaching out to the Quicken Community.

If you haven't done so already, I suggest following the steps in our support article to confirm that there are no filters applied to the account.

To do so:

Confirm that the Sort Order in your account register is set to Date by clicking the Date column header.
Click the Reset button at the top of the register. This will confirm that no filters are applied to the register.

If the transaction may have been moved from one account register to another, click All Transactions in the Account Bar and search for the missing transaction.
Refresh your login session by going to Help > Refresh Sign In. After completing the sign-in process, run One Step Update again.

If the issue persists, please provide the following information:

Are these transactions still marked as Pending on your bank's website?
Have any transactions been deleted recently?
Was the missing transaction incorrectly matched to another transaction in the register? This is common with recurring payments or deposits to the same payee for the same amount. To confirm, look for a small blue icon (or any other icon) next to the downloaded transaction and let me know which icon you see.

Sounds to me like you're both receiving Social Security Payments, for the same amount and on the same day.

To help Quicken record this correctly, I recommend you set up and execute two Scheduled Reminders, one named "Soc Sec (Paul)", the other one "Soc Sec (Wife)" or similar distinct Payee Names. Categorize as needed, if tax and/or Medicare are withheld. Execute both reminders about 3 - 5 days before due date.
When the deposits arrive at the bank and/or you download transactions from the bank, two correctly named and categorized register transactions will already exist. Quicken will be able to match the downloaded data to the register transactions and not create any problems (I hope).

Sounds to me that whatever is creating the download, it is not creating FITIDs that are unique, as in, maybe they are only using the date & amount without anything that would differentiate between you and your wife.

Quicken sees the second one as a duplicate of the first and decides that it should not be presented for acceptance.

If I am correct, only the financial institution or Quicken's data aggregator (Intuit) can fix this issue.

Is this download done by Direct Connect, Express Web connect or Web Connect (.qfx file)? You can find this information on the Account List (Tools menu).

Users have had this issue before when they bought coffee more than once on a given day with the same credit card.

With accounts setup for Express Web Connect, Intuit has had a bug in their processing from the get-go that will not download two identical transactions (same date, payee, and amount). This basically occurs because the original source of the data is something like a CSV file from the financial intuition and Intuit's creation of the FITIDs don't take into account that two identical transactions might be in the data they are processing that they aren't duplicates.

A common example of this was described as someone paying a toll on the way to work and back home.

If this is the case for the Social Security checks, then @UKR suggestion of using scheduled reminders should get you "most of the way there". The second transaction will never be matched to a downloaded transaction though because of the above problem. And if the transaction isn't marked cleared the user will have to always selected it in the reconcile window. So, an added suggestion would be to make sure that the scheduled reminders are saved with the transactions set to cleared. There will be no "download to transaction match", but the fact that you reconcile to the balance will prove that the transaction actually came in.

If this issue is due to EWC stripping out what it perceives as duplicate transactions, I wonder why we don’t see more reports of this issue?

In my opinion, because people give up reporting it after it goes on for so many years with no action on Intuit's part to fix it (and maybe Quicken Inc's to report it). That coupled with the fact that it pretty rare that the general user has two identical transactions on the same day and also the account has to be setup for Express Web Connect. That is lot of things that have to happen for it show up and be reported.
