I back up my Quicken files to a local external hard drive when I shut Quicken off, and it takes 15/20 minutes to complete the backup process. Has anyone experienced this long backup process? Any suggestions on how to speed this process up?
No, my file is 123MB and takes less than 10 seconds to be saved on my local network drive.
How big is your file and does the external drive have a lot of free space?
If you just copy the .QDF file to the external drive using File Explorer, how long does it take?
What else is your Quicken doing while shutting down, other than the backup process? Is it syncing to the Quicken server for use with Quicken Mobile or the Quicken on the Web companion apps?
Is the Quick backup process when shutting Quicken down something that can be turned off? If so, how do I turn this feature off?
just local backup.
Hello @Jerry Pederson,
Thank you for reaching out with this question! Yes, you can adjust your backup settings to prevent it from backing up when you close the program. Navigate to Edit>Preferences>Backup.
If you do not want it to do automatic local backups at all, then unselect "Automatic local backups".
Warning: If you turn this feature off, please ensure you create manual backups periodically.
What file location are you saving your local backups to? Have you tested saving backups to alternate locations to confirm if one specific drive or file path is connected to the slowness?
I hope this helps!
That worked. Thanks.
Thank you for the follow-up,
I'm happy to help!
