IF you're inputting a transaction directly into the register (not via a form, such as a check) can you input those characters?
Because I don't think I've ever heard of this issue before … in QMac or QWin.
Do you have Full Keyboard Access turned on (in System Settings under Accessibility > Keyboard)? That will cause problems with the Space key since it uses that to toggle FKA on & off. I don't know about not being able to type anything after the comma, even FKA doesn't cause that for me.
