New ETF security type

The latest version of Quicken for mac (Version 9.1.1 (Build 901.61363.100)) added ETF as a new security type.

It looks like my ETFs are still listed as mutual funds.

Anyone have any insight as to if/when securities will be updated automatically? I know I didn't set these up myself, so the type must have been set automatically from some source. I really don't look forward to making lots of manual updates

I doubt that they will be automatically updated? I manually changed mine.

You do have to manually change them if you want them to be grouped as ETFs. Unless you have hundreds of ETF securities, it really doesn't take too much time to change them one at a time in the Securities screen.

thanks for the replies. I currently hold about 30 .. guess I'll have to start slogging thru. Sigh. Wish it was downloadable like asset classes.

One of the things that really doesn't seem to occur to people about customizing things for a securities like asset classes is that there is in fact no standard for it. There are ones that Quicken might get from their quote provider, but it is pretty clear that if they are getting them from that source they list hasn't changed in decades. And even if it did it wouldn't always line up with the term that the user might believe it should be.

In fact, I think the original source of them were from when they were using an API that got "expert" suggestions on how one might rebalance their portfolio. Not only would that be a "fixed opinion" at the time, but it also really clear that that API has long since become frozen in time.

How far back in time? ETFs didn't exist at that time.

@John9 No slog; It’ll take you less than 10 minutes to switch your 30 ETFs. It’s really not a big deal. 😀
