Can I prevent Quicken from overwriting data in existing transaction during download?

Even though the transaction was downloaded using Quicken previously, I customized the Payee name to what I want it to read, the new download overwrites the previous entry as new and I lose all the data I had entered in Payee field, memo field, category field.

Most dangerous is Quicken removes the transactions previously entered and updated, and adds them to the "Accept cleared transactions into register" as Status "New" in the format I corrected from.

Payee field: I've tried to update the rules to allow for my naming requirement, but field is gray and doesn't let me update..

Memo field: Quicken removes my notes in memo field. I cannot see if the check box for do not overwrite memo, as Quicken kills my entire previously entered transaction.

I know this isn't me - four times this has repeated.

What should be happening if you have pre-entered a transaction is that Quicken should be matching your downloaded transaction to the existing one and leaving your existing entered transaction alone with maybe the exception of the date:

Where are you seeing this?

Can you include a screenshot?

Maybe you are talking about what happens if you don't pre-enter the transaction, but how the system works for picking up your category/tag?

Quicken first uses the Renaming Rules (Tools → Renaming Rules). For instance, one might use "If payee contains" Safeway to change the payee to Safeway for cases like "Safeway store# 343". Once that is done then the next step is to see if a memorized payee (Tools → Memorized Payees) entry matches and if it does then the category/tag and memo (if the option below is set for not using the one download is set).

When you want the memo uses in a memorized payee to win over the memo downloaded from the financial institution there is a per account setting for that. In the Account Details on the Online Services tab there is a checkbox for "Don't update memo when downloading".
