Quicken Bank Download (Update) versus importing Quicken file from Bank website

How can this be? And again, this is since the latest update.

When I use the 'update' function for my US Bank Mastercard, it shows a balance of, let's say, $ 1,300. Keep in mind that the balance was always showing correctly prior to the update.

Now, if I download a 'Quicken' file from the US Bank website and import it (as a new account), it shows a balance of, let's say, $ 2,400.

When I check my actual balance on the US Bank website - it matches the 'Quicken' file that I imported into Quickbooks - it does not match the balance doing the 'update' account.

So how can an actual Quicken file that is imported be different than what Quicken gets when doing an account update?

And yes, I have it set to download all transactions, etc etc etc…and yes, I deleted the original US Bank Mastercard account and did a full reconnect - get the same wrong balance.

Thank you for sharing what you’re experiencing and for outlining the troubleshooting steps you’ve already tried.

When you run the One Step Update and Quicken shows the incorrect balance, do you know whether that balance includes any pending transactions, or does it reflect only posted transactions? Also, does the balance correspond to any balance shown on the US Bank website, such as the current or available balance?

Just to really test the system, I haven't used the credit card for almost 2 weeks to give the account time to 'settle' so there are no pending transactions showing on the US Bank website. The only version of 'Quicken' that matches the actual bank card balance as shown on the US Bank website is the actual Quicken file that I downloaded from their site and then added it as a new account.

So I did an experiment again yesterday. I 'closed' the US Bank account that I created with the bank's Quicken import (the one that matches with the bank website so as not confuse the system) and I did another full reconnect of my original US Bank account (the one with the wrong balance) to see if it would correct itself and it is still showing a completely wrong balance. The balance isn't changing at all from what it was prior to the latest update. It is like it is stuck. The difference between the balances is quite substantial.

Also the Columbia Bank account is still not updating which I had posted about a few days ago. Columbia Bank is still showing a balance from almost 2 1/2 weeks ago. It is way way off from my actual balance on the Columbia website. And there are no pending transactions for that account either.

I was thinking of trying the same thing I did with the US Bank - try to download a Quicken file directly from the website and create a new account, but honestly I have SOOOOO much history with that bank that if it screws up or changes my categories, etc I am really screwed.

I don't mind playing with the US Bank account because that credit card is only about 2 months old so there would be less work involved if I had to go through and re-categorize line items…

Hope something is being done to fix these issues…especially now with tax time as getting correct reports for 2025 is critical.

Could you please test the account behavior in a test file? I’m referring specifically to the credit card account. Please do not test the Columbia Bank account, as that issue appears to be related to missing transactions.

I noticed that the issue was escalated individually for another user who reported the same behavior in that thread. Since this does not appear to be a widespread issue at the moment, I recommend contacting Quicken Support during their available support hours, as suggested by @Quicken Carlos, if the issue persists and you would like to have it escalated.

To create a test file:

Select File > New.
Select Start from scratch and click Next.
Set your mobile sync preference including a nickname for your Cloud Account (you can change this at any time) and click Next.
After these steps, the Add Account dialog will automatically appear so you can add your financial accounts to Quicken.

Note: Creating a test file will not affect your existing data file. However, you may want to create a backup before proceeding.

Once you've completed the steps, please let me know what you see when testing the credit card account in the new file. Thank you!

FYI - Columbia Bank seems to be fixed - it did finally update with the correct balance, however, the transaction categories are all wrong which I never had an issue with because every month it is roughly the exact same transactions that download and the categories are all set up and usually load correctly. So for example - SCE is our electric bill and is categorized as utility, electric and the update put it as 'charity'. It also put our water bill and gas bill under 'charity'. I checked the actual name that came through on the download compared to last month's name and they are identical so not sure why it would categorize these as something they clearly are not…thoughts on that?

As for the credit card issue - will report back after I complete it…

I'm a QWin user, but so far this isn't an obvious "QMac only issue".

In QWin, USBank supports both Direct Connect and Express Web Connect+. Which method are you using to support your download initiated from within Q?

Also, in QWin, US Bank goes by several different names … and I'd suspect the same in QMac. So, which name are you using for them?

Ok so I did the brand new start from scratch file for US Bank Credit card and the data pulled is all correct. Categories/credit card payee names are really messed up but the balance is the correct balance. So why doesn't the exact same account that I have within my 'portfolio' update??? I have done several 'reconnects' including doing one just now and it still shows the wrong balance…

I assume you are going to tell me that I need to delete my existing account in my portfolio and start it from scratch…am I right? Why are the payee names coming up weird? Thoughts on that?

Oh I wanted to tell you that when I did a reconnect with my existing US Bank (the one with the wrong balance) when it connects into US Bank and asks which account you want to link it to - it shows the credit card balance before you hit confirm - the balance that shows there is the correct balance but then I hit confirm and it continues to update and it updates with the wrong balance. Not sure if that helps with what the issue might be… just thought I would mention that.

And it was the same with Columbia Bank as well - if you did a reconnect, it showed the correct balance before you hit confirm but then the download would come in wrong…just thought I would mention that but again Columbia is working now…

Tried both methods and US Bank for Mac defaults to Quicken Connect - I have had US Bank in my portfolio for years as a checking and savings account and never had any issues - this account is the US Bank Credit Card which they took over from Amazon when Amazon closed down their Black AMEX Business Card a few months back…

Depending on what you mean by "messed up," the most likely cause is that rules/memorized payees don't carry over from your original file. Can you provide an example of what you're seeing? Do you have any rules/memorized payees set up in your original file? You can check by going to Window>Payees & Rules.
