Itemized transactions are not saving

Question

I itemize my transactions to track sales tax and purchase categories.  I itemize the transaction and save. I also make a daily copy of my file.  Inevitably, the next day the transactions are not itemized.  Normally it's not a big deal, as my daily purchases are small, but after returning from vacation, I itemized about 10 transactions yesterday, and now I find that all those transactions were not saved!

I use Quicken Classic for Windows.

Hi @mfannin,

Thank you for your response. The Desktop folder itself is not an issue. However, it appears that your Desktop folder is syncing with OneDrive, which could interfere with Quicken’s ability to properly manage your data. This can happen when the active Quicken data file is stored in a cloud-synced folder such as OneDrive, as outlined in our support article.

I recommend moving your Quicken data file to a location outside of OneDrive. Before moving the file, please make sure to create a backup.

Recommended location

The default and recommended location is: C:\Users\username\Documents\Quicken

Steps to change the file location:

* Close Quicken if it is open.
* Open File Explorer and locate your current Quicken data file (.QDF).
* Right-click the file and select Copy (or Cut, if you prefer to move it).
* Navigate to C:\Users\username\Documents\Quicken.
* Right-click inside the folder and select Paste.
* Once copied, double-click the file from this new location to open it in Quicken

Once the file is no longer syncing with OneDrive, I recommend validating the data file:

* Go to File
* Select Validate and Repair File
* Choose Validate File
* Click OK
* Review Log: Once completed, a log file (validate.txt) will open in Notepad. Review it for any errors.

Please see above.  I did read a while

Please see above.  I did read a while ago that there are issues with saving files to desktop, so this may be the cause.  This issue has been ongoing for several weeks.  It doesn't affect accounts, it affects transactions, some are split, some are not.  For instance, the Wal-Mart purchase of gasoline was not split as sales tax was not itemized.  However, the next day, the transaction was split and the category changed.

Thank you for sharing what you’re experiencing. I’d appreciate a bit more information to help us narrow down the cause.

Could you please let me know:

* When did the issue start?
* Is the issue affecting one specific account or multiple accounts?
* Does the issue only occur with split transactions, or does it also affect other transactions?
* Where is your Quicken data file located? To check, open Quicken and go to File. At the bottom of the menu, the file with the check mark next to it is the one currently open. Please provide the full file path shown there.
