I get a red circle w/exclamation point and a brief, little window stating "Backup Failed".
Really helpful…
@John Patriarca Since the message only indicates that Quicken Online Backup failed and does not provide any additional error details, I don't think there is enough information here to determine the cause. If the issue persists, I recommend contacting Quicken Support, as they have access to account and Online Backup information that is not available in the Community.
Hello @John Patriarca,
Thank you for reporting this issue to us.
At this time, I have attempted to reproduce the issue on my end but have been unable to replicate it.
When attempting to back up your Quicken data file, you may receive a pop-up message stating, “File not backed up.”
Here is an article that offers steps to help you troubleshoot and resolve this issue.
Note: While completing this procedure, make certain no steps are skipped.
Please let us know your results.
Results…
After completing the steps from my previous response, were you able to try backing up again? If so, was it successful, or are you experiencing the same issue?
Thank you.
Same issue, Backup Failed. However:
The account is question belongs to someone else w/a different Quicken ID than mine. I manage/maintain the account.
I paid $119 for the same Q software for my subscription, which also included Bill Manager Standard and Online Backup. I chatted/negotiated w/Q on 4/18/26.
The other party paid $158 on 10/6/25 and $164 on 10/6/26 for the same software (Q Classic Business & Personal) and Bill Manager Standard. Online Backup was not included.
How does one pay $45 more and receive less?
[Removed-Disruptive/Excessive Punctuation]
Thank you for providing those additional details.
After looking up the last purchase on your account, it appears you received a discount on your renewal. So this will explain why you paid less.
Back to the original issue, are you attempting to use the Online backup when signed into Quicken with their credentials, or are you using yours?
Looking forward to your response.
Theirs, of course.
Thank you for confirming,
This issue you describe is similar to a known issue, but the error message is slightly different. If you would like more details on the known issue, please review this Community Alert:
To continue troubleshooting this issue, please backup your file and reset the Quicken Cloud. To do that, navigate to Edit>Preferences>Mobile & Web. Click the blue "Reset your cloud data" link and follow the prompts.
Note: If you do not see the "Reset your cloud data" link, then Sync is turned off. Turn it on, click OK, then go back to Edit>Preferences>Mobile & Web and click the "Reset your cloud data link" to reset the cloud. Once the reset completes, you can turn Sync back off.
Once the cloud reset completes, please sign out of Quicken, then log back in. To log out, navigate to Edit>Preferences>Quicken ID & Cloud Accounts. Click the blue "Sign in as a different user" link.
A confirmation will come up. Type "Yes" in the text box, then click the Sign out button. Once Quicken finishes logging you out, it will bring you back to the login screen. Log in and confirm whether the Online Backup issue is resolved.
Please let me know how it goes!
I assume it's not working cause the other user is not paying for it. Can it be added to his subscription at no charge? He using Q on my recommendation, I'm a 35+ year user.
Thank you for your reply,
If no subscription is associated with their Quicken ID, online services won't work when they log in with that Quicken ID. For more information on what features don't work without a subscription, please review our subscription FAQ: https://www.quicken.com/support/quicken-subscription-membership-faqs#section-windows-7
