Quicken worked fine last week. Nothing changed in the computer except time, last week to this week. But Quicken says QWUTIL.dll is missing and will not run. Now what?
Hi @David Moffat,
Thanks for providing details about the issue. To better understand what may be causing the QWUTIL.dll error, could you please clarify a few things?
Your answers will help us better understand the issue and determine the next steps.
I look forward to your reply!
@David Moffat are you by any chance using Total AV? There have been reports of Total AV getting false positive virus reports on some Quicken related files recently.
That issue raised its ugly head last week for me. I agree with Carlos; Total AV is the problem. I contacted Total AV; was told to reinstall Quicken - I did and it worked fine. Because I had uninstalled Total AV, I reinstalled it then opened Quicken - it seemed to be okay but when Total AV ran the complete anti-virus kernel, I observed the files quarantined - there were four or five Quicken files. The AV tech told me to restore those files; I did and Quicken worked again; however, when AV did its thing again, the problem persisted again. I uninstalled AV; I also had to uninstall/reinstall Quicken. I requested a refund from AV (online); all it did was cancel the auto renewal; I'm on the hook for the remainder of my current subscription. I intend to contact AV to make sure they are aware of the issue; others should do the same.
Hi @AlabamaEagle,
Thank you for sharing your experience and the steps you took to troubleshoot this issue. Your findings about Total AV quarantining Quicken files are helpful, especially since the problem returned after the antivirus scan ran again.
Sharing these details may help other users experiencing the same issue. I also suggest reporting this behavior to Total AV so they can investigate why these files are being flagged.
Thank you for taking the time to share what you found with the Community!
