Adds security as new during every bought transaction

I am entering "shares bought" transactions. Even though I already have the security in the security list, Quicken will go through the process of adding it as if it were new. This makes entering every transaction very slow.

I am using Quicken 2017 Home & Business with Windows 10.

    Elaborate upon how you're recording that "shares bought" transaction.  Step by step.

    Options
    I click the "enter transaction" button above the register.

    I enter the date.

    I type the security symbol in the security box.

    I click on the shares box and enter the number of shares.

    I click on the total box and enter the total transaction cost.

    I click on the "enter/done" button.

    It then brings up the add new security window with a drop down box matching the symbol to securities.

    I select the correct one and it downloads information from Quicken about the security.

    After I do that, the security shows in the security list, but not in the drop down menu in the enter transaction window. I tried closing an reopening Quicken, as well.

    Try using the security Name, instead of the Symbol.  The box you're filling in IS labeled "Security Name".

    That appears to work. What a pain! Thanks for the help, though. :)
