I need very basic info on navigating the Quicken Mac display

I use quicken in a very minimal way, only to provide me with a digital version of my checking account to avoid the add/subtract errors I make trying to do it the ancient way. I have been using quicken this way for many years but after upgrading to version 5.11 things don't make sense. What do I select to get to my running checking account display? Sometimes I just stumble upon it but today I haven't found it yet. Then when I do find it sometimes it shows me a running balance along with the transactions, and sometimes it doesn't . How do I get it to always show the running balance. needless to say, I am not very computer-smart, I need a 7 yr old at my side! (I am also well into my 80's).
is there a user guide where I could look for Quicken help?

The Quicken help file has a section labeled "Basics" that should give you a general overview of the Quicken window. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of pictures to assist, but the data is otherwise good.
If you look at the sidebar, you will see various groupings for different account types. (This will vary depending on how many accounts you track in Quicken.) The important part is that you actually select the individual account you wish to look at in the sidebar. See my dummy file as an example with the checking account highlighted in blue:
(If you select any of the other headings, you will get different accounts grouped together/no running balance.)
If you have the account selected, but still don't see the running balance, then 1) you might not be sorted by date. Click on that column header to make it the sort key. (You can see in the screenshot how it is bold and has the up down carot) or 2) you have filters applied to the register. Click on Clear Filters at the top of the register to clear them.
