Do I really need this update?

Upon opening Quicken I am informed there is an update available. I click on the install update button. It attempts to do something but fails in an error that says that it can not connect to the quicken server and to check my internet connection. I click next and the program closes. I retry to open quicken and it opens normally. I can download transactions from the accounts I manage in quicken with no problems. So the Quicken program has no problem with my internet connection. I have to avoid installing the update because it will close Quicken and some things won't be saved. This has been going on for months. Are these updates important?

Sometimes the updates are important and sometimes they're not. The updates are described at: https://www.quicken.com/support/what-quicken-cloud
If you get an error installing the most recent update, I suggest you perform a clean uninstall, install and update. If you haven’t already, you may want to review: https://www.quicken.com/support/using-qcleanui-uninstall-quicken. To update Quicken, I recommend you download and apply the Mondo Patch: https://www.quicken.com/support/patching-updates-windows
If you have a problem with the most recent update, you may revert to a prior release. To revert to an earlier patch release, I suggest you perform a clean uninstall, install while disconnected from the internet, update by applying the appropriate Mondo Patch, and restoring a data file saved prior to updating from the earlier patch release.
