@jeff42@  There may be an easier option. If the name you are trying to replace is the Payee name, you can accomplish this quickly via the Window > Payees & Rules screen. Find the Payee name you want to change, double-click to edit it, and edit the name. When you save, it will change all instances of the Payee name in your database.

If you have multiple variations of a Payee name (Lowes and Lowe's) and you want to unify them, in the same Payees window, Command-click the different instances of the name so they're all highlighted, then click the Merge Payees button at the bottom of the window. In the Merge box, select the one you want them all changed to in the "Into" dropdown, and all transactions using those Payee names in the database will be changed to the one you selected.

There is a limited find/replace available. Search for the desired transactions using the search box, upper right. Then select the bunch of transactions, then menu File > Get Info, or right click on one and choose Edit. In the window that comes up, enter the replacement value in the appropriate field and click OK.

But be aware that this will not affect fields contained within split transactions.
