Using Quicken for Mac 2020 v 5.16.1

@Marsha Birnbaum Here's another thing to check. In the left sidebar, what exactly are you currently clicked on? There's a top line call All Transactions, then a group heading called Banking, and then a sub-group called Cash. Under that is your checking account. Clicking on any of those items in the left sidebar displays a different register. It sounds like you might be clicked on something other than your actual checking account, such as the Cash or Banking heading. You can only get a Balance column if you're clicked on an individual account. (If you think about it, if you click on Banking and it combines several checking accounts, and/or credit card accounts in one register to view, there can't be a balance because it's a combination of multiple accounts.)
For check numbers, you can definitely turn that column on in any of these combined accounts view by clicking on the Columns icon as was described above.
But it sound like you may have clicked on one of the group headings; if you click back on your checking account in the left sidebar, you'll see all your column settings in the register just as they were before.Quicken Mac Subscription • Quicken user since 19930

Did the column for your Check Numbers disappear, or do your transactions no longer have a check number recorded at all?
Do any of your other accounts still show a running balance? Perhaps the Balance column also disappeared?
If you think it's just that those two columns were hidden, you can make them visible again using the Columns icon in the lower right of your account window (at least, that's where it is in 6.0.3 that I'm using). If that doesn't solve the problem, you may need to provide additional information.
Do you happen to have a recent backup of your file that you could check to see if the data is still there and displayed? (If so, make sure to duplicate that backup file first so you don't introduce the same problem into your original backup file.)0 -
