Why do my downloaded transactions have the wrong payee?

When I get downloaded transactions from Citicard, usually I have several from the same payee, which is not in my memorized payee list, and the actual payees are all ones that I have used before. I have to go to the Citicard site to see who the correct payees are according to them. The amounts are always correct but the payees aren't. It's the same payee every time that shows up for multiple transactions with multiple actual payees.

This looks like an issue that happened to me a couple of times. It occurred when we downloaded transactions from our bank and accidentally used a "Renaming Rule" that applied to more transactions than what we intended. To avoid this in the future, be very careful what you accept as a "Renaming Rule" from Quicken.

To correct it go to Tools > Renaming Rules
Then go through each of the listed Payees that may be affected and Edit, Add, or Delete as necessary.

Please let me know if this helps.

WOW. Thank you very much. I have no recollection of EVER changing a renaming rule in the 20+ years I've been using Quicken, but somehow a payee that I paid a couple of years ago suddenly had a renaming rule that basically said anything with the word "Sarasota" in it would be renamed "Sarasota Brewing Company". Deleted that rule yesterday and todays download was fine. I really appreciate the help.

I have exactly the same problem, except unlike Rick, neither the correct payee (which could be several different ones) or the incorrect payee (TGL Service Station) is on my Renaming List. Any advice?

    Hello @garyphd,

Thank you for taking the time to visit the Community, however, since this is an older post that was originally created back in February of 2021, it is less likely to receive an answer now.

I would suggest creating a new post for better visibility and to potentially receive responses from other users who may currently be experiencing the same problem. Doing so will also assist us with better tracking ability in the event that this issue may result in an escalation being required.

Please be sure to include a description of the issue, any error messages as well as the version of Quicken you have currently running (Help > About Quicken). The more information you are able to provide will help the Community to better understand and assist.

    Thank you!
