To expand on Jon's answer a bit, to change the memo field in a group of transaction so that they all have the same new memo, select the transactions using shift-click, command-click or Edit > Select All (if you've filtered the register to contain only the transactions you want to modify). Then click memo File > Get Info. Enter the new memo in the Memo field and click OK. Note that this will only change the top line memo in split transactions. Any memos on the individual split lines have to be changed one by one.

Probably not the way you mean, no - I'm not aware of any search & replace command. If you click on the little magnifying lens icon in the search window you can tell it to just search the memo field, but you'd have to manually edit the transactions it finds. If the memo fields are all identical you could do a group edit, otherwise you'll have to do one at a time.

Is an enhancement for search (that includes replace) on the wishlist?

It's been suggested, but doesn't appear to have been put on the "to do" list yet. Feel free to add your vote (by clicking on the little triangle under the vote count).
