Why does my Backup suddenly go to over 4million KB,

I cant back up onto a flash drive now, which I have always done before. Why has this changed or how do I fix it to back up data only not the actual program?

Quicken's backup saves you data file, with an extension of QDF-backup, not the program itself.

Do you have the backup set to save the time and date as part of the filename? Then it makes a different file for every backup and over time you might fill up a 4 GB flash drive.

Use Windows File Explorer to look at the flash drive. Does it have dozens of QDF-backup files, with the beginning part of the names as your Quicken file name and dates at the end? If so you can delete the older ones to make room for newer backups.

Is each QDF-backup file 4 GB, or is that the total of all your backups?

How big is each QDF-backup file?

Do you make extensive use of attachments? They consume lots of space.

The actual backup is 4.2 mil KB, normally my backups are about 15000 KB

Well, the obvious question is: How big is the QDF file that's being backed up?

If you answer our questions, we may be able to help you.

    To repeat:
What is the size of the QDF file you are backing up, before the backup?

If the QDF file has recently grown, did you add a very large attachment recently?

If you do.... Help -->Shift+About Quicken - it will display some stats about your QDF file -
Also - what version .... Help --> About Quicken

Are you using the Canadian version of Quicken?
    Please try the following:
Run both a Validate and a Supervalidate procedure as shown here:

Advanced Data File Troubleshooting to Correct Problems With Quicken for Windows

Something may have damaged your active Quicken data file causing the backup process to go off the rails.

You do realize that my QDF file is 191713KB or 191MB ... from Windows - 217 MB (228,290,560 bytes)
A totally new and empty QDF files is only - 464 KB (475,136 bytes)
You listed your file as 1062k, or 1MB - is this correct ?
