Why does a prior payment amount populate the Payment field when I make a new entry

When I am making a payment on a credit card account, after I select the payee from the drop-down list, the entry in quicken pre-populates with information from an old payment. This has caused me to inadvertently pay the wrong amount, incurring interest charges. How can I ensure only the payee name populates when I select from the drop-down list of payees

    Go to Tools > Memorized Payee list and select the Payee. Click on Edit. set the amount to 0.00 and check the Lock box.
