I am trying to transfer my quicken from a Mac to windows
I made the back up as a QXF file onto a hard drive
Now it is on the windows computer but the Quicken for Windows can't find/see it
Windows says they are looking for a QDF file

First off you have to have the Deluxe or higher edition, the Starter edition doesn't have the QXF import feature.
Second make sure you are using the correct menu item:

One thing to add to Chris_QPW's answer is that you have to start a new, empty data file first and then you can do the import.
-splasher using Q continuously since 1996
- Subscription Quicken - Win11 and QW2013 - Win11

To get a good import that is true, but it is in fact possible to import a QXF file into an existing data file. It is in fact one way to merge two data files. Provided there isn't any investment accounts in the data file that is going to be merged in.splasher said:One thing to add to Chris_QPW's answer is that you have to start a new, empty data file first and then you can do the import.
And that reminds me to point out that Quicken Windows QXF import will not import any investment transactions from Quicken Mac.Signature:
