Help! What files do I need to use Quicken if have files, but not a backup?

Hi,

I know this is an old version of Quicken, but I have/had Quicken 2007 on my main laptop, and that laptop died tonight (can't boot. tried to restore an image but still can't boot).

The way I had Windows and Quicken configured on that now-dead laptop was that I had the Quicken data files on the E: drive. I have a Quicken backup but the last one I did was from 9/13/2022 (and today is 12/9/2022), so if possible, I'd like to get Quicken 2007 working with the files that were from the now-dead laptop.

I pulled the E: drive off of that laptop and can access what used to be the E: drive from a new laptop now, and I have Quicken 2007 installed and running on the new laptop. I was able to restore from the 9/13/2022 files, but as I said I'd really like to get the Quicken back to 12/9/2022.

Is that possible to do? What files do I need? I think I've found the 3 of the files from 12/9/2022, but I think that I am missing a .QDF file.

Sorry for asking this. Like I said, I know it is an old version, but I don't know how I would try to reproduce the missing transactions since 9/13/2022-12/9/2022 if I can't recover this :(!!!

Thanks in advance,
Jim

You can try to install an older version.  If you get it installed you will need to update it.  One of the SuperUsers has posted the update patches for older versions (2000 and newer) of Quicken

    http://www.quicknperlwiz.com/quicken-patches-us.html

You should at least try to convert to the 2013 version since you don’t use any online services or download transactions now.  Then it should run on newer versions of Windows.  Starting in 2014 they instituted an ID password to get into your own data. I’m staying on 2013.

2013 should run on Newer Windows.  You can download 2013 Deluxe for free using this how to convert article.  It’s under Converting from Quicken 2004-2009.

    https://www.quicken.com/support/how-and-when-use-intermediate-version-convert-older-versions-quicken

If your version is 2003 or earlier you will need to first convert to 2004.  Then convert to 2013.  Read that whole article on converting.

And FYI - If your Quicken was before 2010 you should have several files making up the data.  The main data file ends in .QDF.  All Quicken versions prior to QW2010 store your data in a series of files all sharing the same filename but with different extensions like  - .QDF .IDX, .QEL, .QPH  and all 4 of those files were rolled into a single-file .QDF starting in 2010.

I'm staying on Quicken 2013 Premier for Windows.
