Tax Subcategory

My state recently added a new payroll tax item to my paycheck. I would like to add another tax category but when I try to make it a subcategory my Tax category isn't listed in the drop down. Is this an error/bug or on purpose?

I have tried creating an "expense" and assigning a tax category but it doesn't list it as a subcategory of "Tax".

Here are the steps. Note that if the tax line you want doesn't exists then you will just have to pick something close or just mark it as a tax item without a tax line.

Ctrl+J to bring up the reminders, and then edit the paycheck reminder.
And then:

Change values as needed and click where I have indicated.

Close the dialogs and you should have your new tax field in the paycheck reminder.

The issue I'm having is in the image below when I go to "Subcategory of" tax will not show in the drop down. It's not even in the list. Could I have to many categories?

I'm not following, are you saying when you select the Tax Reporting tab it doesn't change?

Also, I just saw this thread, is this the problem?

That's the same issue. I'll try that suggestion and see what happens.

It's possible there is a way around the problem, but since none of my Quicken files has the problem, I can't verify whether this will work.

In the Category List, right-click the category you want to create a sub-category for.

In the resulting dropdown menu, select "New subcategory". The "New Category" dialog will open with the parent-category-to-be already selected in the "Subcategory of" dropdown. Then you can just enter the name of the new sub-category in the Category Name field and click OK.
