Entry is really slow with latest update - Version R63.21 Build 27.1.63.21

After the latest update on 06/16/2025 entry has really slowed down. As I am entering the name in the Payee List it pauses after each letter, and when I hit enter it does not select the highlighted name.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm in the process of updating to that release now. Will reply if same occurs. However, I have had the same type of situation in Word as well as Quicken and other products at times. What I have done is turn the mouse off/on, the same with the keyboard. In most cased it clears the sluggishness up. If not, I replace the battery in each one to determine what corrects it. May not fit your issue but the issue you explained seems what I have experienced. Cheers

I eliminated most of the memorized Payee's from more than 2 years ago and that fixed the issue. I had over 14,000 memorized payees. It was not slow until the up-date though.

Same issue and it's so frustrating

    Hello @mjulie,

Thank you for letting us know you're encountering an issue with data entry in Quicken being very slow. Did you try the solution that the original poster shared earlier?

If you have tried it, and the problem persists, then please provide more details about the issue you're encountering. When did you first notice the problem? Did the issue start shortly after a program/computer update or an unexpected program/computer shutdown? Where is the issue happening (only in account registers, only in a specific tab, everywhere, etc.)?

I look forward to your reply!

I have under 400 memorized. Still slow on data entry. Significant pause after enter.

I too am having same issue since the last update. I have a very trimmed memorized payees list and rule to remove unused payees after 12 months. Yet during entry in the Payee field for new transactions, there is a significant delay between entering each letter. There is 3 to 5 second pause after each letter is entered. This even occurs on Payees where I only have one memorized listing (eg McDonalds can take up to 20 seconds to just enter the letters mcdo)

This occurred immediately after the last update (Release R63.21) was completed. Quicken has become nearly unusable since this update.

    Hello @datadr93,

Thank you for letting us know you're seeing this issue. Have you restarted your computer since the last Quicken update? If you haven't, please do so.

If the issue persists after the computer restart, then the next step is to start troubleshooting program issues by reinstalling the most recent patch update. For the link to the patch and instructions on manually reinstalling it, please see this article:

Please let me know how it goes!

If you haven't done so already, please do the following actions:

    1. Even if you are on the latest software level already, download and install the latest Manual Patch file from https://www.quicken.com/support/update-and-patch-20182019-release-quicken-windows-subscription-product to ensure your Quicken software is up to date and correctly installed.
    2. Reboot Windows. Let Windows fully wake up and do whatever it wants to do after booting up … 15 minutes or so.
    3. Start Quicken. Do not run One Step Update.
    4. Run BOTH Validate and Supervalidate to attempt to repair your Quicken data file.
    5. If nothing helps, try to restore your Quicken data file from an Automatic or Manual backup taken just prior to the problems first occurring. https://www.quicken.com/support/how-backup-or-restore-your-quicken-data

    Validate and Supervalidate instructions
First save a backup file prior to performing these steps
    Validate:
    • Click File
    • Select Validate and Repair File...
    • Select Validate File
    • If the data file contains investment accounts also select "Rebuild investing lots".
    • If you suspect that a damaged Quotes Price History causes your problems, also select "Correct investing price history" functions "Delete" or "Repair and Rebuild".
    • Click OK
    • Review the Data Log. Anything interesting in there, worthwhile posting here?
    • Close Quicken, leave it closed for about 30 secs
    • Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

    Super Validate:
    • Click File
    • Press and hold both CTRL and Shift keys while you click Validate and Repair File...
    • Select Supervalidate File
    • Click OK
    • Review the Data Log. Anything interesting in there, worthwhile posting here?
    • Close Quicken, leave it closed for about 30 secs
    • Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

I am having the same issue since the last update. When I manually input a payee it scrolls - letter by letter through the entire list. It is extremely slow and frustrating. I did a manual update and restarted windows, but the problem persists. I've been using Quicken since the very beginning, but if this problem persists I'm going to have to use another program. It's just not usable as it is now.

Have you performed the actions suggested in my response earlier in this discussion?
If so, have these actions been successful?

  • Bami
Bami Quicken Windows Subscription Member ✭✭

I did the first few steps, but I haven't done the validate and supervalidate because the problem is not during downloads. It is only with manual input of payee information.

Downloads have nothing to do with your issue. Data file corruption caused by abnormal termination of Quicken (crashes or kills with Task Manager) or patch update installation errors is more likely the cause.
    Please complete the suggested procedure.

I've also had the exact same issue after the update. This is not a data file corruption problem, or restarting windows, or another issue involving the user's hardware. I too have tried all the above, and still am having the same issue -when typing in a payee you have to wait 3 or 4 seconds when entering one character to the next. This problem started exactly at the precise point right after the Quicken update was installed. Please Quicken IT team solve this issue as the problem definitely has something to do with the patch update itself, and not the user's configuration, Thank you!

Have tried the recommended actions. Agreed tied directly to the update. Still SLOW. Please fix in next update.

If you want to prove the data entry slowness is due to the most recent patch, you can try reverting to a prior patch level. Just download and run the manual patch from this article:
