New T-bill hides downloaded transactions

I'm running into a new bug when I purchase a new T-bill (such as CUSIP 912797QH3) and open the containing account, Quicken asks me if this is a new security, then I say yes, and Quicken appears to accept all the downloaded transactions for the account (even though I specified manual only), and then shows 0 downloaded transactions until I close & reopen Quicken. Then it shows the T-bill purchase waiting to be accepted.

    Hello @EvDob,

Thanks for the detailed explanation—this does sound like unexpected behavior. I’d like to ask a few more questions to better understand how the issue is triggered:

    1. Which financial institution is this T-bill purchase being downloaded from?
    2. When Quicken prompts you to confirm the new security, are you manually linking it to an existing security or allowing Quicken to create a new one?
    3. After you accept the new security, does it appear correctly in your Security List (with a type of Treasury and correct ticker/CUSIP)?
    4. Just to clarify—when you say the account is set to manual only, do you mean that you’ve disabled automatic transaction entry in the account settings?
    5. Have you noticed this happening consistently with all new T-bill purchases or only with specific ones like 912797QH3?
    6. Do you see any placeholder entries or mismatched shares appearing after the file is reopened and the transaction is visible?

Let me know what you find!

    @Quicken Jasmine

    1. Fidelity NetBenefits
    2. Allowing Quicken to create a new one
    3. Yes
    4. Yes
    5. Last two new T-bill purchases
    6. Didn't notice before accepting transaction, none now

Ran into this again with a first-time purchase of an ETF (BAGY):

    5. All new T-bill & ETF purchases

    6. Yes, there are mismatched shares but no new placeholder entries when the transaction is visible. After accepting, the mismatched shares go away.

    Hello @EvDob,

Thank you for providing more information and I do apologize for my delayed response.

I think that I have an idea as to what might be occurring. When Quicken encounters a first-time security download, it's likely processing the transaction and queuing it for review, but due to the interaction between:

    • creating a new security,
    • the account's “manual transaction entry” setting,
    • and the transaction being downloaded in the same session,

…it seems Quicken is prematurely clearing the visible download queue—even though it hasn’t finalized adding the transaction to your review list. Only after restarting Quicken does the queued transaction appear as expected.

    Next Steps to Try:

To help confirm and possibly work around this behavior, can you try the following next time you encounter it?

    1. After adding the new security, do not immediately close Quicken.
    2. Go to Tools > Security List, locate the new security, and confirm:
      • The CUSIP is correctly stored.
      • The security type is accurate (e.g., “Treasury Bond” or “ETF”).
    3. Then go to Edit > Preferences > Downloaded Transactions and double-check that “Automatically add to investment transaction lists” is not selected (this confirms it’s honoring your manual setting).
    4. Open Tools > Online Center for the financial institution and check if the transaction still appears in the download log.
    5. Lastly, go to File > Validate and Repair > Validate File, and see if that triggers the hidden transaction to appear without restarting Quicken. It is recommended to save a backup before proceeding.

Below are more detailed instructions on how to Validate your data file:

    1. Validate:
    2. File
    3. Validate and Repair File...
    4. Validate File
    5. Click OK Screenshot 2024-12-16 at 11.31.47 AM.png
    6. Close the Data Log
    7. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    8. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

Please let me know how it goes!

Thanks, Jasmine. I'll try this if I see it again, though I've not seen this with recent new security additions.
