Can someone help me with the following?

I need to search and total expenses for certain categories for 2024.

Example:

1.) How can I generate a report of all my gas & fuel expenses for the 2024 tax year?

2.) How can I generate a report of all my business meal deductions for the 2024 tax year?

I have tried all the search functions I can find in the menu but I can't seem to find the right way to do what I am trying to do.

Given the examples cited above, can anyone help me perform the proper search and generate the corresponding reports?

Thank you so much for your help.

I am using the latest Quicken Classic Business & Home version.

Have you assigned appropriate Categories to these expenses? If you have been inconsistent in your use of Categories, you will have to do some cleanup before you can produce meaningful reports.

If the Categories are clean, I would go to Reports > Spending > Itemized Categories. Set the date range to Yearly and 2024. Click on the gear at the top right to customize the report and on the Categories tab, click on Clear all then select the Categories you want to include in the report. Click on OK to see the results. The report will be subtotaled by Category. Near the top, click on "Update to show" to select whether the individual transactions or just the totals are shown.

Assuming that you used the categories that you cite in creating transactions in Q … why can't you simply run REPORTS, BANKING, TRANSACTIONS to get the info that you want?

IF you didn't use those categories, assigning such would be a necessary first step in getting what you want.

  • @DonJuanDeLeon you should be able to create a Banking Transaction report for any category and timeframe you need.

    1. Display tab -
      1. Date Range would be "Yearly" and then select "2024"
      2. Subtotal = Category
      3. Sort by = Date
      4. Make sure to select "Cents"
    2. Accounts tab -
      1. Select the Account or "All Accounts"
      2. Check "Hidden accounts" and "Separate accounts" if you aren't sure which accounts the transactions are in
    3. Categories tab
      1. Select the specific categories you need to report on. If you have multiple, they will be subtotaled by Category.
      2. Check "Show (hidden categories)
      3. Click the "Expand" button if needed
    4. Payees tab -
      1. it is safest here to include all payees
    5. Tags tab -
      1. Include all Tags, unless you have transactions with tabs that need to be excluded
      2. Check "Show hidden tabs" if needed
    6. Securities tab -
      1. Ignore this tab - not applicable
    7. Advanced tab -
      1. Leave all the defaults "as-is"
      2. except make sure "Subcategories" is "Show all" if you are also reporting on subcategories

You can then customize the report further for what you want to show and how you want to show it.
