Opening Balance transaction changed by Quicken

Anyone seeing Quicken arbitrarily changing the opening balance in an account? My PayPal Credit balance was wildly different from what PayPal has. I went back to a 9/1/2025 Quciken backup and, sure enough, my current file’s opening balance had been changed.

    Yep, It happens. Seems to happen more when reauthorizing an online account. Best defense is to add a comment to the first entry of each account with the correct opening balance. All but one of mine are Zero.

    It does seem to happen from time to time. I just caught one today that it happened to in a credit card account when I was reconciling one I tend to only do quarterly.

    Quicken should certainly not be changing the opening balance of long-established accounts, but this has been going on for a long time. This tends to happen when something changes about the account - deactivating/reactivating, changing the connection method, etc.

    To help recover when this happens, as @nmestanas says, it is a good idea to record the correct opening balance in the Memo field of the Opening Balance transaction in each account. That way, when Quicken changes the amount, you know what it should be and you can change it back.

    I have seen this happen several times in the past. Just caught another one. The opening balance was changed on an account that was opened 18 years ago. Doesn't make sense to me. Should not have to waste time tracking this sort of thing down.

    @Quicken Anja Any comments?

    As others have said, make a comment in the Memo section so that you know what the amount should be for the transaction. Correct it when it changes and move on.
