Why am I seeing duplicate entries from Fidelity?

I am having the same issue with Fidelity Investments. I use a Mac. I cannot confirm if the FITID's are different. I have deleted duplicate transactions. Then, I disconnected my account from Fidelity. Then, I reactivated my account with Fidelity and the duplicates reappear. It appears that the newly added entries have ticker or fund symbols in the Security/Payee name. Therefore, Quicken is recognizing them as separate investment funds. It is adding new duplicate shares, all having the date that I started using Quicken in 2021.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hello @Roddy H,

Thank you for reaching out! I moved your post to a new discussion since the troubleshooting steps for Quicken for Windows and Quicken for Mac are different.

Based on your description of the issue, it sounds like Quicken is seeing the securities as new securities, rather than recognizing they're existing securities, and is creating placeholder transactions to account for these new securities. Is that correct?

If that is what is happening, then I recommend that you backup your Quicken file, delete the placeholders, and merge the securities with the existing securities in your Quicken. For instructions on merging securities, please review this article: https://info.quicken.com/mac/merging-securities . That should correct the issue and prevent Quicken from automatically creating new placeholders every time you update your Quicken.

    I hope this helps!

This is happening to me too on Quicken for Mac. This only started when Fidelity / Quicken created a new way to import Fidelity data. This seems like a Quicken problem. I shouldn't have to make my own "patch" to get this to work. Is Quicken working on a solution?

I merged securities and it worked for 3/4 of the securities. At the most recent download, Quicken for Mac actually put in a placeholder to remove all of the shares of one of my securities. There are no duplicate securities for this mutual fund and I do actually own shares.

    Thank you for your reply,

What is happening with the 1/4 of the securities where merging did not work? Are you seeing duplicates reappearing with every account update? If not, please provide more details about the behavior you are seeing.

For the holding where a placeholder removed all shares, is that holding being represented as cash in Quicken instead of as a security? Which holding is this happening with?

    Thank you!

Thank you @Quicken Kristina. Your recommendation appears to have resolved my issue for now. As a side note, our available 401(k) funds are unique to our company. They are not mutual funds and do not have ticker symbols. Therefore, I have selected type "Other" for each fund and then chose an appropriate asset class. This should help reporting.

There was another benefit. I found that my 401(k) has not been updating since the funds were being duplicated. I am not sure why this was happening, but after merging the accounts as you recommended, I found that my balance is now updated and there are no transactions with duplicate names or similar names.

    Thank you.
