Quicken Mac Locks Up When I Try to Add an Attachment

Hi,

Just recently, Quicken (Classic for Mac Business & Personal 8.3.3) started locking up (Spinning Beach Ball when Finder window opens to select file) every time I click the "Add an Attachment" paper clip icon on a transaction. I've tried restarting my Mac (Mac mini M1, Tahoe 26.1, 8GB Ram/250GB HD), quitting and restarting Quicken, and adding an attachment from the menu bar rather than the icon, with no success. The rest of Quicken works flawlessly. I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to start troubleshooting.

Thank you.

    Hello @mrc88dal,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

I have some follow-up questions for you.

    • Are you saying that when you use Quicken, you open it by going through the Finder and selecting a file?
    • How long would you say this issue has been happening?
    • Where is your data file located?
    • Is your file being backed up/synced by any third-party services like iCloud, OneDrive, or Norton?

    Looking forward to your response.

    HI,

Are you saying that when you use Quicken, you open it by going through the Finder and selecting a file?

No. The freeze occurs when I try to add an attachment via the paper clip icon in the transaction register. Clicking that icon opens a Finder window so that one can select the attachment to add but in my case it simply causes Quicken to freeze.

How long would you say this issue has been happening?

    7 - 10 days

Where is your data file located?

Mac HD > Home Folder > Library > Application Support > Quicken > Documents

Is your file being backed up/synced by any third-party services like iCloud, OneDrive, or Norton?

No. It is backed up the Mac HD Home Folder > Library > Application Support > Quicken > Documents > Backups > Automatic Backups

    Thanks, Mark

I believe this is a Mac OS Tahoe issue affecting iMac M1 and Mac mini M1 computers and not related to Quicken. Problems with sluggishness and freezes when launching the Finder are being reported on the Apple Community boards, especially if you're using an iMac M1 or a Mac mini M1 with Tahoe. The remedy to fix this issue, according to the boards, is to delete the contents of Core Spotlight on your Mac (~/Library/Metadata/Core Spotlight/).
