Fidelity HSA - just another part of the Fidelity problems - Quicken Announcement

Why was Fidelity so bad with the cutover? Did they do Zero planning? My rep has consistently blamed Quicken only when it's their data mapping that has been the majority of the issue. And if they aren't blaming them, they have suggested workarounds that we all know don't work or aren't what we want.

I don't think they offer any more magic than the other brokers with brick and mortar, like Schwab.

Schwab does offer an HSA brokerage account. You have to link it through Lively for the Health Savings side. They charge $24 a year, but Schwab charges nothing.

I don't have issues with the problems; I have issues with how Fidelity has handled them.

    Hello @Carefree,

Thank you for sharing your experience, though I am sorry for your continued frustrations with Fidelity.

As you know, no transactions for Fidelity HSA accounts, is a known issue, as you have linked in your post. I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.

The long list posted of Fidelity issues doesn't give me faith in their concern for the issues. I really don't understand how unprepared they were for this.

    @Carefree,

Thank you for following up. We do understand the impact of the issues that have occurred thus far with the Fidelity migration.

I apologize that this has not been a smooth process, and I can assure you that both Quicken and Fidelity work hard to resolve issues as they arise.

    Thank you for the feedback.

I too have had problems recently downloading transactions from a Fidelity HSA. Please fix this!

Fidelity doesn't seem to care about the HSA accounts; they have known this for many months.

    Hello All,

Thank you for adding to this discussion.

Just wanted to clarify, we do have an Announcement up acknowledging this issue, as the OP linked in their post. However, Fidelity has not given any indication that they plan to change this.

Make sure to bookmark the announcement to be updated if the situation changes. But, as of now, no dates or plans have been shared with us.

In the meantime, we recommend that you manually update cash balances for your Fidelity HSA accounts in Quicken.

    Thank you.

After futzing with the Fidelity HSA issue for over a week, I finally contacted Quicken who let me know this is a known issue. It is interesting that some are blaming Fidelity, whereas it is very difficult to understand when the Fidelity HSA account specifically states a transaction as DEBIT but Quicken posts it as CvrShrt. This is not a stock trade, it is a simple CASH account. I have a Cash Management Account with Fidelity that comes across clean, DEBIT or CREDIT. I believe the issue is on Quicken's translation. [Removed - Speculation]

Fidelity is being blamed because they didn't prepare for it. Given all the various issues and my own interactions with them, it is clear they did little testing, little prep and now they have a big mess with lots of us.

    Hello All,

Thank you for adding to this discussion.

The issue with Fidelity HSA accounts not downloading is a Known Issue. There have been no updates/changes to this situation.

The problem is in the way Fidelity is sending the data to Quicken. The data necessary for downloading these accounts is not being sent to Quicken from Fidelity.

Any updates/changes to this issue will be posted to the linked Community announcement. Make sure you have it bookmarked to be notified if changes occur.

    Thank you!

I 'chatted' with Fidelity yesterday trying to sort the mixed messages online. First they insisted that the problem was on Quicken's end. They pointed to a dated community thread as evidence. I pointed out more recent conversations. Then they said that they were working on a new problem with the H.S.A. accounts - that they were just informed of it but that my problem is an old problem and I need to work with Quicken. When I pushed back, they offered to instruct me on how to create a test file to see if my Quicken file was corrupted. When I pointed out that my CMA downloads were fine then they said it was probably the new problem. The interpretation then: If you are having a problem with your H.S.A. account only then its the "new problem" and its on their end. If you are having a problem with multiple accounts then its an old problem and Quicken is working on it. They could not describe the new problem, tell me how it differs from the old problem, tell me who was working on it or when it would be resolved. "There is no timeline for resolution". I pointed out that unfortunately, I have a timeline since I have to make a number of year end H.S.A transactions.

Bottom line is that Fidelity isn't taking any responsibility here. How do we get their attention short of closing our accounts and going elsewhere?

@MollyG my experience with Fidelity was they blamed Quicken every time. They did no prep for the cutover. They offered advice on workarounds that were not relevant or were very impractical. My solution is in progress. Moving one account to Vanguard. My HSA is more problematic in that there are few options. The Lively/Schwab accounts are having issues now, so maybe there is something on Quicken's end too. My problem was the lack of customer concern to actually take action and respond well by Fidelity.

Quicken actually works pretty well for all of its functionality. I wasn't happy to pay an annual fee but that model was essential to maintain a product that does all this in a world where everyone is trying to steal your money electronically 24/7. My Vanguard accounts all work very well (knock on wood) - I moved and had to leave my long time credit union. Since the Fidelity account had my H.S.A., I opened the C.M.A. there instead of having a brick and mortar account. Now, I'm wondering what else to do…..it all takes a lot of time.
