Net Worth Report showing negative balances for zero balanced accounts

Hi,

I just ran a Net Worth Report and noticed that zero balanced investment accounts are showing up with large negative balances. I went back to an Excel file data dump on June 15, 2025 and the account balances correctly showed as zero.

I've seen some posts on this subject, but they are now closed.

I am running Canadian Version; Release R65.20.

Thanks in advance

Cheers,

Randy

    Hello @LostCanuck,

Thank you for letting us know you're encountering this issue. To help troubleshoot, please provide more information. When did you first notice this issue? Is this happening with every zero balance account, or just some? Are the impacted accounts closed? If so, are there any transactions in the registers after the date they were closed? Have you clicked the customize gear on the Net Worth report and double checked to make sure there aren't any settings which may be excluding some data (and causing the negative balances)?

I look forward to your reply!

    Hi @Quicken Kristina

I was able to resolve my issue by restoring a backup file. Here are answers to your questions and the steps I took.

    1. I first noticed this problem yesterday
    2. I restored a backup from 2025-12-12. I had approximately 6 other backups before I found one without the issue
    3. The accounts that caught my eye were zero balanced accounts
      1. No transactions after the zero balanced closed date.
      2. The accounts were closed circa 2011-2014
    4. Yes, I ran the New Worth report from one that I created as well as the default Quicken Net Worth report. All settings were correct
    5. The backup I had to use was created prior to doing investing account monthly updates (done manually).

I also noticed a few active accounts with balances on the home page (left column) that didn't match the Net Worth report or the "account balance" report.

Again, I think my problem is resolved by going to the backup. When I noticed the error, I checked for updates and updated to Canadian R65.20 Build 27.1.65.20. I'm not sure what version was running previously.

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

    Thank you for your reply,

I'm glad to hear that restoring a backup seems to have resolved the issue!

Based on your answers and description of the behavior, it sounds like this may have been an issue with that original file. Do you keep your Quicken file directly on your local hard drive? Is it synced with any cloud service, such as OneDrive, iCloud, or Dropbox? Was there any program or computer update that happened around the same time you noticed this issue?

    Thank you!

    Hi @Quicken Kristina

The file is not synced to any external drive. I have it back up to a network drive, but no cloud services.

No computer updates other than standard Windows 11 and Quicken updates.

    Thank you for your reply,

It sounds like you're doing everything correct to reduce the risk of file damage. While it is uncommon, sometimes a program update can cause file issues. Was there a program update around the time that you noticed the issue?

    Thank you!

Is the Net Worth report still behaving properly in the restored backup?
