Missing Categories in Windows Reports
I use Quicken Classic Premier release R65.29 (current) on Windows 11 Professional.
When doing my taxes I noticed that some (not all) reports omit transactions for at least one specific subcategory. The subcategory is available in the master category list and in the pick list when I add a new transaction but on some reports (not all) omitted from the "Categories" tab which is part of report customization.
As a result many of the reports I rely on are inaccurate. I can't trust any of them without extensive queries and then what's the point of the report?
The often missing custom subcategory is named "Devices" under Category "Medical". It is tax related for Schedule A. I have disabled the Early Access " Customize Report"option under Preferences as suggested by an AI I consulted but that did not make the missing subcategory re-appear for the corrupted report definitions.

Are you reusing customized saved report definitions or are you always creating new reports from scratch, from the reports Menu or Reports & Graphs Center?
When reusing customized saved reports look in the Customize section, Category tab to see if this category and potentially all other new categories are included to be selected. After making changes, save the customized report again, for future reference.

I reuse reports, mostly customized in some way. I do look in the Category tab of the customize section and that's where the subcategory is missing.

Please show us image snapshots of
- Tools / Category List, scrolled to show the subcategory and its Parent Category, with all columns of the Category List view
- the report customization view, again scrolled to where the subcategory should be

Attached are three images. One is of the Category List showing 8 subcategories of "Medical". The other two are from the Report Customization window Category tab showing only 7 subcategories of "Medical". (I couldn't resize the window to show all).

I am not experiencing that issue, so it's probably not a systemic Quicken problem. The first troubleshooting step would be to validate and maybe even super validate your data file and see if that isolates any errors.
To verify a data file error, create a new test data file. Create the same categories with the same tax line item assignments and see if the problem can be duplicated. My guess is it will not.

I tried a Validate and that did not fix the missing subcategory within the Report Customization Category tab. At this point I'm reluctant to try a 'super-validate'.

Something to try: Add a new subcategory, e.g. new devices, with the same tax line items. Does it show up on the customize reports dialogs? If so then find and replace with the newly named category, and then delete the defective one.

That worked well, thank you. I still wonder what other category/subcategory pair is also corrupt but I'll keep my eyes open.
