Incorrect cash balance for an investment account in the register
I'm on Quicken Classic for Windows, Version R65.29, Build 27.1.65.29. The problem started recently, no more than a couple of weeks ago.
I have an investment account that shows a Cash Balance of $470,550.92 at the bottom of the register. When I click on that, the Update Cash Balance window pops up and it shows the correct cash balance of $77.92. The Total Market Value at the bottom of the register is accurate but the Securities Value is low by the $470,473 (the difference between the shown and the actual cash balance).
The Account Overview window shows the correct securities and cash in the Holdings pane but the wrong amount of cash and the reduced market value of the securities in the Account Status (which matches the register).
I found a case with the identical symptoms back in 2021 that was resolved by replacing Bought transactions with N/A for cash with Add Shares transactions. But in my case, it appears that Bought transactions are correct: they show shares added to the account with the cash subtracted.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello @Vlad Kaplan,
Thank you for reaching out! Do you have a core fund that's used instead of cash? If you do, then it's possible that the reason for the discrepancy is that Quicken is seeing that fund as cash instead of as a money market fund.
To check for that, navigate to Tools>Account List, and click the Edit button next to the problem account. Then, go to the Online Services tab. Near the lower right, you should see a Reset Money market securities/cash options button.
Click that button. If it's set to interpret the fund as cash, you should be able to change it there.
I hope this helps!

Thank you, Kristina, for your response. I keep excess cash in SGOV to earn dividends, but it's not counted as cash in the account. The actual cash, usually very little, is just kept in a sweep fund.

Thank you for your reply,
To clarify, did you check to make sure the Money Market securities/cash options in Quicken are correct?
Does SGOV show as a holding in your Quicken? If it does, is it reflecting correctly, or is it short by the amount of extra cash in the account in Quicken?
Thank you!

Similar situation here. Cash Value and Cash Balance disagree considerably in a non-IRA Fidelity Investment acct.
The Cash Balance at bottom of account transaction register incorrectly shows amount about $30k more than Holdings report. The Cash shown on Holdings page matches Brokerage amount. On-line services is set to treat Money Market account (SPAXX) as cash which is listed in Brokerage account. The Total Market Value in both the Account Register and on Holdings are equal and match Brokerage. Likewise, the Quicken pop-up to Update Cash Balance shows the Brokerage balance which is same as Holding balance.
As comparison, the Cash Balance and Cash in Holdings match in six other accts at same Brokerage. These are set to treat Money Market acct as cash (FDRXX as per Brokerage) and are otherwise set up exactly the same.

Quicken Kristina, in case I verified something different than what you meant, please confirm how to make sure Money Market securities/cash options are correct. Thanks.
