Consolidating payee names for reporting
When I enter payee names, often the prefill will put in similar but different names for the same payee. Then, when I am using the "how much did I pay to" easy answer report, there is a list of multiple names for the same payee. I know I can go back to each register entry and consolidate the correct name, but is there a shortcut to help me to accomplish this?

Have you taken a look at EDIT, Find/Replace … and consolidating the Payee names? Be sure to take backups both before and during these mass changes.
Also, take a look at Renaming Rules to prevent the multiple name situation from happening.
