How do I delete a download in Simple Tracking Method?

Back in 2025 the Vanguard Brokerage account switched to Simple tracking method. So in January 2026 I did the usual download manually. Then Q did a direct connect and downloaded the same data. The question is how do I get rid of the duplicate monthly download? Do I have to go into Complete and edit?

Thanks, Doug

Yeah, I believe that you need Complete in order to have a transaction register that displays transactions.

Take a backup before you make the switch, and when you're done you can take another backup and revert.

Is this information showing in a report?

Whereas it is correct that the only way to change the values in the investment account would be to Complete, you might not be able to do that while the account is connected online. I don't have a Vanguard account to test, but when a financial institution forces Simple only, then you can't switch it unless you first deactivate it for online access.

From there you can remove transactions since Simple mode doesn't really get rid of the investment register, just hides it. Note though what Simple mode is doing in that hidden account register is adjusting the cash and security positions based on the "summary security information" downloaded from the financial institution during One Step Update.

@Chris_QPW How would a brokerage know which tracking method one is using in Q?

While the OP's account may have been changed to Simple, I'd think that to be a Q issue (as has been reported by others) and not a brokerage issue.

I don't know the details, but I know that the financial institution can control this.

My wife's 401K at Merrill Lynch Benefits forced when they switched over to Express Web Connect +.

I remember threads with Vanguard doing a similar thing:

Looking at these threads again, it looks like at least for Vanguard the problem might be on the Quicken side.
