Why do I have to verify the Cash Balance? [Edited]

After One Step Update, Accept All to match entered and downloaded transactions,
I get this verification message and an Entry in the register with no Security.

It only happens with one investment account of several.
There are no placeholders.
How do I stop it?

How long have you been experiencing this issue?
How is your cash balance displayed on the financial institution’s website? Is it listed as a security or as a money market fund?
In Quicken, how are you tracking the cash in this account, as a security or simply as cash within the account?
Have you already tried deactivating and then reactivating the account in Quicken?

more than six months across many quicken updates

my several accounts are at Schwab and all set up the same way.
showing as cash balance at start of business day

Only one account does this.

In Quicken this is a cash balance in the account

the more serious problem is the spurious Entry transaction.
If you navigate incorrectly the investment register display turnS into all empty MiscExp transactions
Then have to close and reopen Quicken.

Have you already tried deactivating and then reactivating the account in Quicken?

Thank you for providing those details; that’s very helpful. The cash account may have been set up incorrectly, and the steps below could help to correct it. Please make sure to save a backup first:

Open the problematic account.
Click on the Gear icon.
Select Update Cash Balance.
Click Cash Representation at the bottom left.
Please change how Quicken manages cash information.
Finally, update the account.

I tried the update cash balance.

I noticed that the setting was different from other accounts.
I made the change so that the settings are consistent.

However, that did not fix the problem.

Thank you for letting me know the results.

Let’s go ahead and validate and reset your account. Before starting, please make sure to save a backup of your file.

Deactivate the affected account

Go to Tools > Account List.
In the Account List, select the account and click Edit.
In the Account Details window, open the Online Services tab.
Click Deactivate next to the online service.
Confirm by clicking Yes.

Validate the file

This process helps clear errors and resolve possible file corruption:

Go to File
Click Validate and Repair File
Select the Validate file
Click OK
Once completed, a log file (validate.txt) will open in Notepad. Please review it for any unrecoverable transactions that may require manual correction.

Reactivate account:

Go to Tools > Add Account.
Search for and select your financial institution.
If prompted, choose the appropriate connection method.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
When the list of found accounts appears, be sure to select Link to connect them to your existing accounts (do not add duplicates).

Validate + Reactivate just made a bigger mess. I ended up with two connections to Schwab.

One new thing with the Rollover account, the first with other accounts.
Update reported 3841 transactions downloaded, but those were nowhere to be found.

I went back to the old file.

Then I got the barred red circle that forced me to reactivate again

After three tries, I'm back where I started. The problem persists.

I was pretty sure I had got back to one Schwab connection with all accounts linked.

But now I see that I have one Schwab connection with Rollover account and one Schwab connection with the other accounts.
Is this an issue that has been reported? After deactivate and reauthorization I am adding Rollover as an existing Quicken account.

As @Quicken Laura recommended: It may be beneficial to contact Quicken Support directly, as they have a screen share tool that, if you're willing, can make it easier for the agent to see what is happening when you're reconnecting your accounts.

If contacting Quicken Support directly isn't a viable option, then please provide more information:

Are all of the accounts under the same login credentials with Schwab?
Are you the primary account holder for all of the accounts?
You mentioned that you returned to your original file. Did you make sure to deactivate all of your Schwab accounts under the same login credentials (including checking for any hidden accounts) before reconnecting them?

I think the problem is with Quicken.

Schwab says authorize six accounts. Rollover is one of them.

yes, but I have to verify my cash balance every time. The amounts shown are always equal.

If not, are you seeing any error messages/codes?

Quicken also adds an empty Entry transaction (see original snapshots)

If the account isn't showing up as an option to link in your Quicken file, that's why it's showing separately in the One Step Update Settings window.

In case it is a file-specific issue keeping that account from displaying as an option to link and causing those empty transactions to appear, I recommend making a backup of your file, then copying and validating the copied file, per the instructions in our article on data file troubleshooting:

Go to File > Copy or Backup File and select Create a copy or template (do not choose Year End Copy for this procedure).
- Please note that a file copy is disconnected from online services, such as transaction download. Online services would need to be reconnected if you wish to use them in the file copy.
Leave all the settings, including file name and checkboxes, at their default (change nothing on this screen). Simply click Save Copy.
After the Copy is complete, choose to Open New Copy.
In the New Copy, go to File > Validate and Repair File and select the Validate file option. This is to ensure there are no lingering issues with the data in this file.
- If your issue was with Investment account(s) slowness or other data issues with an investment account, be sure to also select Rebuild Lots during this procedure.
After the Validation process is finished, you will see the Data_Log appear in a Notepad window. This file is a summary of the Validation results.
Review the Data_Log.txt for messages pertaining to the quality of your data and resolve any that are advised with instructions you should follow. This may require that you delete, edit, or re-enter transactions manually.
1. In the example above, further instructions are given advising to review and set the categories correctly
2. If you receive the message "Damaged data block" in the Data_Log after the Validation completes, the file is not repairable. We recommend restoring a backup from prior to the date listed on this message.
Test your regular procedure(s) to see if the issue you were encountering is now resolved. If the issue is resolved, continue using the new, repaired data file.
1. If the issue is not resolved, then return to your original file. For instructions on switching between Quicken files, please click here.
