Is there a way to export Quicken for Mac categories as a text file or CSV file?

I find myself working with AI tools more and more to help organize, clean up, and think through my budget categories. Right now, the only practical way I have found to share my category list is by taking long screenshots, which is awkward and not very accurate.

A plain text or CSV export would be much better because it would:

Be easier to read and search
Avoid OCR mistakes from screenshots
Use far fewer AI tokens, especially when working with tools like Claude
Make it easier to review category structure, naming, descriptions, and budget planning
Help users clean up or reorganize large category lists

Does Quicken for Mac currently have any way to export the category list directly as text or CSV?

If not, I would love to see this added as a feature. Even a simple export with category name, parent category, description, tax-related status, and hidden status would be incredibly helpful.

There is no category list export. There is a longstanding feature request to be able to print a category list, which would make it easier to turn into a CSV file:

You may want to add your comment to that Idea, since I think printing and exporting are compatible. but I have asked a moderator to change this post into an Idea topic of its own, so users can vote for it in order to have it forwarded to the developers for consideration.

I n the meantime, you might try generating and exporting a Summary report by Category for all time, and exporting the report. Then you (or your AI helper 🤣) should be able to extract and clean up the category names from the first column on the report. That's not quick and simple, but it probably beats extracting info from screen shots of the Categories window. 😉
