I agree. But my point is that once it's realized, it's realized whether it's in a retirement account or not. And my newer question is why the report is showing a negative unrealized, but I suspect it debiting unrealized and crediting realized in accounting terms.
-
I see I can add the to the reports, so that is good. I ended up with some negative unrealized gains. Any idea how that happens? The largest ones were at times T-Bills reached maturity. Is that just the increase in value changing from unrealized to realized gain? So it nets out when those are combined?
-
So do any? Really they are only unrealized while they are in holdings (stocks, bonds, CD's, etc.) Once those distribute cash income or are sold, that cash can be pulled from a Roth at any time with no penalty (if you are old enough and fit the other criteria). So they really should be able to be considered income if…

Thanks. Yes, I see your perspective that they are unrealized income. But when you get older and a large portion of your income is earned in retirement accounts, you like to see how your spending compares to your overall "earnings", whether you actually pull them out of the retirement account to spend them or not. Hopefully…

I have Quicken Classic. It is very convenient to look at income and Expense categories here to drill down and find and edit mis-categorizations and other issues.
-
It did a couple repairs and said the file was fine. When I downloaded just quicken it OL-292-B Quicken is unable to complete your request as it is invalid. But when I do a full download it doesn't give an error and just says there were no new transactions. I didn't try the new file yet. Do you know what that error code…

Direct Connect. Thanks

I'm talking about a solo 401k which eTrade is the administrator of. It looks like an IRA at eTrade just is called a 401k.

Mine was running so slowly for years, make a change in a transaction and wait seconds. Repair didn't help. All they could offer was to archive a lot, which I did but it made no difference. Then suddenly last year they updated the software somehow and everything has been great. Until this week with the last update [Removed…

I tried all of these suggestions and none of them worked for me. And like the person above, when I moved the account bar to the right side Quicken froze.
-
I can't get my chase card to update the past week either. It appears to do so but never triggers the confirmation code request. Quicken completes and says no transactions although there have been.
-
Same here

There's a tax-deferred yes/no button. Maybe they need to add a third category so there's: tax deferred, tax not deferred, tax already paid
-
I don't know where the list is to upvote but definitely Roth accounts need to be separated from non-Roth. Maybe I should have set my Roth's up as non-retirement accounts, but can't change it now.
-
Never mind, I finally found how to adjust the share balance.
-
Weird, mine is gone. But when I did the transfer it did mark the payment as made, and split the amount into interest and principal, which it didn't do previously.
-
Thanks. The hidden categories looked promising but it doesn't seem to work. I went to the _IntInc and changed it to not hidden, then I select All accounts for a day in which there is an interest transaction in an investment account, and it still doesn't appear. Here's what else I can say. I have IRA accounts that were set…

Not sure why you feel the need to be snarky. The fact is, there IS an Income pull-down on the Spending tab, and there is a reason that Spending tab exists. That interface is very useful for some things compared to a report. But I have trouble understanding why anyone would want their Income category to not include all…
-
Sherlock Well that's too bad but at least I found the workaround above.
-
NotACPA Yes sorry, I mis-spoke. I think of the Spending tab as the same as a report; not sure why it doesn't behave the same way.
-
Thanks. I assume you mean to include IntInc in a report. But I don't run reports, I just use the Spending tab to look at Income and Expenses. That tab seems to only use non-investment categories.
-
Note, I did find one way. If I edit the transaction to put it in the Misc Income box than the Interest income box, it allows me to add a category. Is this the right way?
-
Yes, it's sort of dumb if you value your time. I am retired, and I learned it over time. Although with very little effort most people could double or triple their payback. And for many people, especially if you fly coach and mostly in the USA, high cash back cards are the best. The highest is Alliant CU at 3% first year…
-
Yes, sorry about that. I use Quickbooks a lot more than Quicken, but am talking about Quicken. I just said latest version. It is R8.8.
-
I average around 7%.
-
Good to know. Thanks. To confirm, there is no "manual matching" of transactions, where you could choose 2 and say they are a transfer? You just make select one to make a transfer and then delete the other?
-
I get $5k+ of free travel each year through optimization of credit card miles & points.
-
Sorry Arctic Hare, I understand that is best but I'm not going to do it. I have 15 credit cards downloading, sometimes 2 payments on each in a month. I don't even know when the payments happen unless I log into the accounts to see, and enter them before downloading. Which is the whole reason I started downloading, so I…
-
Arctic Hare, OK, but your answer didn't make clear that you understood the issue. A clear answer would have been "Transfers can be problematic if you don't enter them ahead of time before downloading." OK, thanks, that is good to know. It tells me I'm not set up wrong or doing something wrong (although the previous answer…

Thank you! I see mine is set to Automatic. Do you think I can keep it more accurate if I select the Confirm option?
