i want to make a quick report for a category for 2010

After creating your Quick Report, you can click on the Customize icon and change the date range to whatever you want.

There are several ways of doing this, but here is one. In a register, right click or control click on a transaction that has the desired category. Chose report on the category you desire. In the report window that pops up, choose customize. In the date box, enter your desired date range.

Thank you. After rewiring my brain and actually "seeing" what I was looking at, I remembered what I had done in the past. "Customize" was staring right at me. I did exactly what you describe within minutes of my post.
