The report customization dialog has been simplified to have 2 basic settings: 1) Include any account, category, tag, or payee or 2) Include only selected accounts, categories, tags or payees. Previously it was not obvious what would happen if all accounts, categories, tags, or payees were selected.
This is a vast improvement. However, we still need in the Tags section a *No Tag* item in the list. As it is, there is no way to filter for transactions that have either one specific tag OR are untagged.
RickO commented ; You want to include transactions that are untagged or have tag AA, but not BB. I don't see a way to do that.

Exactly the problem I have with the present configuration; I have need for the ability to exclude one or more Tags while including untagged plus remaining Tags.
QWin handles this very smoothly by including "Untagged" as the first option in the customization Tag list.

Very nice printing improvements for the Portfolio view - thank you.  I particularly like the CSV export capability to format the report in Excel according to personal needs.  This is a good addition.

However, I am disappointed that two major issues still remain in the investments area:

    1. Remove shares is still treated as a capital loss, and this negatively affects the Performance measurements (IRR, ROI) and the capital gains report.  From my perspective this is a major defect since Remove shares and Add shares is Quicken's recommended method to move shares between accounts, and is also the mechanism to handle security exchanges within an account.  This defect can turn a positively performing security and account into a loss position, and as a result the performance measurements for the account can go permanently negative because of this.  It makes IRR & ROI measurements permanently useless for that security and account, as well as impacting performance roll-ups at the Brokerage, Retirement, and Education investment category levels.

    2. Adjusted Cost Base (or average cost) has not been added as a cost basis method for securities.  FIFO and LIFO are not valid cost basis methods for Canadian taxpayers. Other Canadian features in the product have been very good so far, but this remaining issue is a real limiter.  Unless you take extreme measures to manually calculate and implement an ACB method using the custom lots feature, the product does not report correct gain/loss amounts.  Canadian users typically have to calculate their cost base using other methods outside of the product (e.g. Excel).  This is a shame and removes value from the product for Canadian users.  I don't think I am alone in this request.

Perhaps there was insufficient time to deal with these issues in the 5.6 release.  I am still hopeful that Quicken will address these problems within a reasonable time as part of upcoming releases.

Reports: I don't know if I am doing something wrong, but in 5.6, reports are not pulling in all the data. This is for both the predefined reports and through New Reports. For example, a report for summary by category, only a subset of the transactions are being pulled in. When I generate a report for either last year or this year, several categories, I looked at two - for example "Charity" and "Mortgage" are reporting only a subset of all transactions that have these as categories. In all cases the Tags and Payee are selected to "Include Transactions with any or no..."  Accounts are "All" (including accounts hidden from reports, just in case).  I can debug further and provide more specifics, but was wondering if anyone else has spotted a problem with reports.

Note that the category assignment is still there. When I select Banking in the left pane and, within all the transactions, select Last Year as the date range, and then search for "Charity", all transactions with Charity as a category correctly show up. But not in reports.

Absolutely correct - it worked fine before starting graph at the lowest value in the range.  After 30 years all of my graphs are now flat lines.

Still watching for a correct to the traded options display.  The options cost basis on portfolio view is 100 times the entry in transaction view.  Transactions are entered cost per option.  After entry each option converts to 100 shares each.  The cost in transaction is adjusted.  However in portfolio the shares are multiplied by the option price. A $300 cost becomes $30,000 cost.  I don't enter options anymore until the contracts are closed or expire.  Disappointed again but appreciate the other improvements.

As it is, there is no way to filter for transactions that have either one specific tag OR are untagged.UGH!!! What is the point of the IDEA threads if they are not actually read and tracked? This has been pointed out for over 7 months and captured here:  and discussed MANY times in the forum much before and since then.

It is the FIRST item on the very carefully and painfully culled and organized list here:
List of Requests for Report Related Features

Or if you prefer a more condensed view of each sublist, look at the
EXPANDED List of Categorized IDEAS of Feature Requests and Enhancements to Vote On
(it is the 7th sublist on there).
NOTE: a more up-to-date list can be found here (only accessible to SUs and Quicken staff), though there are still many more to be categorized and added to these lists):
    https://getsatisfaction.com/quickencommunity/topics/please-ignore-this-post-this-is-just-a-temporary...

Marcus, I urge you to please review these organized IDEA lists whenever you are working on a feature set to make sure you are in tune with what users are actually looking for (believe it or not, there is actually an order to the lists, especially trying to group related requests).

BTW, this again shows that you are not actually looking at how QM2007 implements features (which the IDEA threads do a pretty good job at capturing the important features) and therefore keep missing sometimes subtle but yet important features. Many subtle features are there after many years of experience based on what users want and need. TIA.

Sync with Quicken Mobile is changed
I thought that the sync was broken.  All of the sudden my Cash account and one Savings account stopped appearing on Quicken Mobile.

In Mobile Preferences (on the desktop version) there is now a list of accounts to be synced over to Mobile.  Once I checked on my manual accounts (cash, savings account) - voila they all appeared.

It seems there has been a misunderstanding of the scope of what was being done, based on your statement that you thought you added the "no tags" feature... so hope you can appreciate the misunderstanding...

Glad to see that this is still being considered for enhancements.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled I did the update and found an issue with the handling of a remove shares transact....

I did the update and found an issue with the handling of a remove shares transaction. The ETF changed its name and there is an add and remove shares transaction in my history. My portfolio still is reported the removed shares in my holdings. How should this be fixed?

I don't believe we made any changes to add and remove shares in 5.6.  My guess is that the brokerage is sending you an add and remove shares because of the name change.  I'm no sure I can answer your question because you haven't provided enough information. For example, are your share balances correct?  Are the Remove shares causing your balances to be off?  If it is, what happens if you delete the Remove Share, does the balance go back to normal?  Can you provide more information?

Thanks for reporting these.  Quite honestly some things fall off my radar.  I'm not sure I fully understand your proposal for #1.  Are you saying a removal of shares during a period of time should not be counted in the beginning balance for IRR calculations so that when they get removed they aren't counted as a loss but are assumed to have never been part of the account?  Can you provide a little more detail about how you expect it to work?  Thanks.

Appreciate that Quicken is going to fix this.  This again falls under the category of a "fix" that we don't need.  Trying to justify the annual fee by tweaking this program over and over with cosmetic changes that may or may not be good for the consumer.  Instead, I would like to see my bank account update when extra security is used (like use of an emailed code.)  Instead I have to go thru the update user name and password for the account to prompt me for the code.  Why can't it just prompt me to enter the code and complete the link up.

Doug, thanks for reporting what you saw and how you fixed it.  Can I ask, were you upgrading from an earlier version of Quicken like 2015 or were you upgrading from 2018 5.5.7 to 5.6?  The reason I ask is that these settings shouldn't have changed if you were already on 2018.  Anyway, thanks for reporting this in the forums to help the community.

    Marcus,
For a security moved from one account to another, the entire history needs to move with it - as if it was always part of the new account.  I think this is the only way to maintain performance integrity. Therefore the Remove shares and Add shares, in case of moving a security, needs to be linked.

In case of Remove shares by themselves (not part of a move shares between accounts), this is slightly more complicated but at least one option should be what you have suggested - that the removed shares were never part of the account. That is one way to maintain the integrity of the account level performance. The problem with treating it as a sale at current market price would of course be an incorrect cash postion. Perhaps others can provide some input? Perhaps it would be desirable to retain the performance of that security upto the date of removal, in which case treating it as a sale at the current value, followed by the removal of the cash generated by the transaction (to keep the remove security from impacting cash position) may be a way to handle this.

Finally, an Add shares by themselves - the only way is to offer the option to manually adding the cost basis - either as a average or, if the user so choses, by multiple transactions so that the time element is preserved for IRR.
    Regards,
    Najmi.

And here are the detailed release notes:

    Improved application performance

In 5.6, we focused on improving app performance. Customers with years and years of investment transactions were the most impacted so we zeroed our efforts around investments, but everyone should benefit.

    • NEW Drastically improved launch times for customers with lots of investment history. A lot of the slowness was downloading and storing quotes which has been significantly optimized.
    • NEW As part of this performance improvement, Quicken will now only download quotes for held securities, ignoring securities that are no longer owned. In the Securities list, we added a column, so you can see which securities are held. If you want to manage this yourself, you can turn this feature off and then a new column appears, so you can select which securities to update.
    • NEW Switching to the investment view is significantly faster but drawing the chart can still take some time. By the way, you can hide the chart by dragging up on the bar between the chart and the portfolio table which also improves the overall performance of these views.
    • NEW Switching from the Portfolio Value view to Performance view is a lot faster now.
    • NEW Switching between different Groups in the Portfolio View now immediately update.

    Improved report usability and functionality
    • NEW The ComparisonSummary and Transaction reports created from New Report now display date range and customization settings in the upper right corner. This information also appears in printed and exported reports.
    • NEW The report customization dialog has been simplified to have 2 basic settings: 1) Include any account, category, tag, or payee or 2) Include only selected accounts, categories, tags or payees. Previously it was not obvious what would happen if all accounts, categories, tags, or payees were selected.
    • NEW As part of refining this experience, column selection for transaction reports has been moved to the report toolbar.
    • NEW The drill down report will now remember the columns chosen so that all future drill down reports will include the same columns.
    • FIXED The ComparisonSummary and Transaction reports created from New Report will now export foreign and other special characters to the CSV file.

Continued refinement of investment portfolio view
    • NEW The portfolio view can now be printed, exported to a CSV file, or copied and pasted into a spreadsheet.
    • NEW The portfolio view now remembers which securities have been expanded and collapsed.
    • NEW Added a way to expand all or collapse all securities. CTRL-click, or right-click, the portfolio view header to get to see these options.
    • NEW Securities without a cost basis will now display an Add Cost Basis button that will bring up the dialog to cost basis information.
    • NEW The number of shares column will now display more than 3 decimal places.
    • NEW The Y-Axis now always starts at zero.
Better eBill support in Bills & Income
    • NEW Changed the way track flow works. First, Quicken asks whether you want to add an eBill or manual bill. Second, if creating an eBill, Quicken will allow you to enter any name to search for an eBiller vs forcing you to pick an existing payee. You'll link the eBill to the payee later in the process.
    • NEW Added an Add Payee option to the Payee screen.
    • NEW Added a column to the Payees list window to more easily select which payees should appear in the Bills & Income screen.
    General improvements across the product
    • NEW Improved transaction downloads. Previously, downloading from Direct Connect accounts would block you from doing anything else. Now Direct Connect works like Quicken Connect accounts in that you can continue to use Quicken while downloading is happening in the background.
    • NEW In the register, the name of the column being sorted will display more boldly in order to make it more obvious which column is being used to sort the register.
    • NEW Also in the register, we now always display the balance regardless of the column being sorted. When not sorted by Date or CLR, the balance column will have an italicized, dark gray color to let you know the balance won't match your statement.
    • NEW Updated the Column menu in the register to allow you to more easily hide and show columns. We also added a Reset to Default menu item to get back to the default for the current account.
    • FIXED Fixed a number of bugs and stability issues.
I agree.  5.6 makes the portfolio graph totally useless starting at zero with a large value portfolio.  Just looks like a green blob with a nearly straight top - no detail at all.  Put it back the way is was.

Since I got the update yesterday, I am no longer able to reconcile my credit cards due to bug.  When I select the option of "statement balance" instead of online balance it always show the current online balance as the starting balance instead of the last statement balance - as such the feature is now completely broken.   Please fix!

I agree; who thought that the chart starting at zero was a good idea?
