Mac Reconcile Problem
After absolutely no problems reconciling any previous months, I was surprised that the "Starting Balance" did not match the previous "Ending Balance" from my statement. My first clue that something was wrong. Undeterred, I went through my normal reconciliation process but ended up with a discrepancy.
After researching potential solutions, I reloaded my previous backup, based upon user suggestions. Sadly, even those starting balances no longer matched when starting reconciliation. I have about 10 years of reconciled credit card statements after converting from Quicken 2007 (Mac), but no way to find out when or where a transaction got "dropped".
How may I narrow down at least the month where the problem began without unreconciling 10 years of transactions and restarting from scratch?

Yes, it is essentially a brute force approach unfortunately. RickO's first suggesting might get you there but it not, it is reviewing period by period until you can find the culprit transactions.RickO said:One simple thing you can do is to set the Status filter to Uncleared and look for any old transaction that you know should be shown as reconciled. (If you find such, you can option-click the Clr box twice to force it into reconciled status.)
If this doesn't help, there is reconcile help in the program. After choosing Use Statement Balance, then Next, click the gear icon > Reconcile Help.

Note that it can either be transactions that lost their reconciled state or transactions that somehow got deleted, or a transfer that no longer is a transfer.
There is a feature in QM2007 that has not been added back into "modern" QMac that would help resolve this type of problem very quickly, reducing the effort to seconds or minutes, rather than taking potentially hours or days. You can add your VOTE to
Track/store Prior Reconciled Statements/periods.
First, click on the underlined link above to go there, then click VOTE at the top of THAT page, so your vote will count for THIS feature and increase its visibility to the developers by seeking to have the features you need or desire end up in the latest version.
While you are at it, you may want to add your VOTE to related IDEAS found on the

From what I can tell, it appears that one or more transactions got dropped when QM rebuilt the database after the latest update. The new Starting/Prior balance is less that what was previously reconciled. I went back to a prior month, unreconciled those transactions and the problem exists there as well. Who knows how far back it goes?RickO said:One simple thing you can do is to set the Status filter to Uncleared and look for any old transaction that you know should be shown as reconciled. I will definitely make a vote on resurrecting the "Prior Statements" feature. That had saved me a number of times when my mother first started reconciling with the old QM.0
