Simple way to follow a loan as a lender

I lended 100K @ 12% to a friend from my checking account (12 payments of 1,000). Can someone run me through how to best set up this situation to follow the loan ?
I have Quicken Deluxe for mac Version 5.14.2 (Build 514.31850.100)

QMac does not currently have the ability built-in to track a loan that you make. Instead, you can create an asset account and manually create the entries of principal and interest calculations and payments made.
