Where should I purchase to update subscription?
RCinNJ
My subscription to QM 2020 is expiring and I see it is cheaper from Staples. Any problem purchasing it there and extending my subscription this way or are there "gotcha's" I should be aware of?
I don't really understand why Quicken doesn't offer the renewals at a lower price than a new subscription. They have to charge Staples less than what they charge me, print the box and materials and ship it to Staples and then Staples has to ship me the box and yet it is cheaper. I'd happily give Quicken the same amount of money, do an online update, and let them keep all the money. But the renewal is so expensive I'm not willing to give them more than I have to!

There shouldn't be any "gotcha's". You should get an activation code from the Staples purchase and then be able to just select Help -> Enter Activation Code...
Note you can extend your subscription as long as you are within 6 months of it expiring.

You can also look around for retailers who sell download copies of Quicken -- which in the subscription era means you simply get an activation code to enter in the program or on Quicken.com. That saves the time of waiting to get a box shipped to you, as well as any possible shipping costs. Amazon, for instance, currently has Deluxe for $39.99 and Premier for $59.99 -- both for 14 month subscriptions. Staples seems to have the same prices, for 12-month subscriptions -- but you can choose a download purchase instead of a box with DVD. It doesn't matter where you buy; the downloads always come from Quicken.com.

If you aren't planning to take advantage of Quicken's bill payment service, there is really no reason to pay $20/year extra for Premier on the Mac platform. (It's a different story for Windows, where there are functional differences between Deluxe and Premier).

Thanks jacobs! Actually, I realize the Staples price was for the download. Thanks for the pointer to Amazon's 14 month version. Trying to decide whether to buy Premier again go for the cheaper Deluxe. I haven't used tech support in a couple of years (bad experiences is the past) and I'm not interested in QM sending checks for me.
