Reconcile previous balance

My Mac reconcile function in one account is somehow accessing an incorrect prior balance value. That is to say: my ledger balance matches my online banking balance precisely. But when I run reconcile, a large out of balance value results. I attempted to add a bogus entry in the amount of the shown out of balance value, and that, of course, brings my ledger balance to a number that is not equivalent to the online banking balance. Can I fix this somehow?

The "prior balance" is the sum of all the past reconciled and cleared transactions. If any of the past transactions have changed this will cause this kind of problem.
