You stated it clear enough. Ctrl+F and hitting the search icon are the same. The behavior has been changed because some people wanted it the other way.

I guess i didn't express the question clearly. In an older version, I could click on a field in the register, let's say "macy's" and it would highlight macy's. Then I would click on the search icon on top and it would search for macy's without my having to retype macy's.0
