Invisible "Not accepted" transactions when updating accounts?

I update my accounts in Quicken (windows desktop version) every couple of months. This time when doing it, most of my accounts said they updated successfully, but no new transactions appeared in them. (One or two accounts updated normally.)

I spent a long time troubleshooting: doing web-connect updates again and again, deactivating and reactivating my web-connected accounts, checking against the actual account statements etc.

What I finally discovered was that these accounts had marked all the new transactions as "not accepted" (or "not reviewed") even though my setting was automatic entry on / yes. Further, the "not accepted" transactions did NOT appear in Quicken anywhere, I believe they should have appeared in "Downloaded Transactions" at the bottom of the screen, but that section was either not there, or showed "Downloaded Transactions (0)."

The only way I figured this out was by checking in the Quicken Cloud online site/app, and ONLY in there could I see these "not accepted" transactions. In there, I marked them as accepted/reviewed, went back to Quicken desktop, updated each account again, and they finally showed up.

So my question is, why did this happen and how do I prevent this from happening in the future? Was this some kind of bug that made these downloaded transactions invisible in Quicken desktop, but visible in Quicken Cloud?

(For now I changed my default setting to automatic entry OFF, so that hopefully new transactions will at least be visible when I next do an update?)

Very strange.  Where exactly were you seeing "not accepted"?

When you use automatic entry, the imported transactions are not automatically accepted.  The new transactions should appear in the register waiting to be accepted or manually matched (blue ball icon).  The matched transactions should appear in the register waiting to be reviewed (blue pencil icon).  When automatic entry is off, these transactions should appear in the Downloaded Transactions tab at the bottom of the register.

If you haven't already you may want to review: https://www.quicken.com/support/quicken-says-there-are-transactions-accept-i-do-not-see-any

@Chris_QPW I saw the "not accepted" transactions only in the Quicken Cloud online app. Before I noticed that I had no idea what was going on since it said account updates were successful, but no new transactions were appearing.

@Sherlock Yes that was my understanding for how it should work, however neither of those is what happened. It was set to "on" at first, but the new transactions did not appear at all in Quicken desktop. There was no "downloaded transactions" tab at the bottom at all. Once I started troubleshooting, I switched to automatic entry: off, then the "downloaded transactions" tab appeared, however it was empty (saying 0 transactions) no matter what I did.

Thanks for clarifying that.  I have never seen "not accepted" in Quicken Web, but I haven't used it much (only in a test data file).

My guess on what might be happening is that when you have Sync to Mobile/Web on for your accounts, QCS (Quicken Connection Services)/the Quicken data set server, periodically downloads transactions from the financial institutions.  If it did that and hasn't yet been synced to your data file that might be what they are talking about with "not accepted".  The big question is why when you ran One Step Update it didn't either sync these transactions into the register or download them the normal way...

I suppose maybe it could have actually downloaded the transactions, but thought that they were already synced from the Quicken data set, and then didn't show them.  Only someone that really knows what is going on and can read the logs might be able to troubleshoot it.

Well I found the "Not Accepted".  If you hover over one of the grayed out checkmarks this comes up.

And I found the help that they mentioned:

None of this really explains your problem since as you can see with automatic transaction entry mode it should have given the blue dots/New status like above left (this is how it is in my data file).  Or for manual accept they should have appeared as in it shows on the right.

So I'm still going with some kind of strange EDIT Sync to Mobile/Web sync to Quicken cloud data set (both Sync to Mobile/Web and Express Web Connect sync to the Quicken cloud data set) problem as my guess.
