Investment Accounts (Q Mac)

In Quicken I mostly just want a place where I can see the balances in all my accounts across banks, credit cards and investment accounts.
I have investment accounts at TD under Advisor Client and at Vanguard.
Both have lots of transactions on a monthly basis with dividends, and purchases and sales. After daily downloading seem to get off in a few days in terms of ending balance. And not by a rounding error but really off, so much so that I gave up.
1-Is this a common problem?
2-Is there an automated way to just update the ending balance?

You might be interested in the "Simple" investment mode that Quicken Mac is in release 6.3 which just update security positions/prices and cash balance. See this announcement:
