Is there a way to have separate accounts, as in one account for myself and one for my father?

I have only very recently subscribed to Quicken Deluxe here in Canada, so I am a major newbie. I wish to do budgeting etc. separately for myself and my father. I wish to keep his banking activities/info separate from my banking activities/info.

The best thing to do is create separate Quicken files for each of you.  Then everything will be separate

Yes they should be kept separate.  You can set up a separate data file for your father.   Not just separate accounts, but a completely separate Quicken file.  Go up to File-New Quicken file.

Huh?  Your sentence doesn't make sense to me.  What did you do?  When you have separate data files then each data file has it's own accounts.  You only have 1 data file open at a time.  Then you only work on one person's set of accounts.  You only add his accounts in his file and your accounts in your file.  They are completely separate.

You can have more than 1 Quicken FILE.  Each data file only has the accounts for that File.  Like on your computer you should have 2 FILES
    [your file name].qdf
    [Father's file name].qdf

Did you set up the second file?  Then you have to switch between them by going up to FILE - OPEN or by clicking on the other file at the bottom of the FILE menu.  See screen shot

I do not have my own banking information as yet. But, when I attempted FILE - NEW, all it did was save everything to the cloud.
Quicken doesn't save its data file to the "cloud", it saves it to a .QDF file on your machine.
If you select File at the bottom you will see the recently used file list, like this:
That will show you where they are being saved (you can also use this list to switch between which one is open at a given time).

You can also use Show this file on my computer for Quicken to open Windows File Explorer with the current Quicken data file selected, example:

If you selected to have Quicken sync to Mobile/Web it sends a partial copy of your data to the "Quicken cloud data set", which the Mobile app/web are the "GUIs" for.  It isn't a backup, it is just to do some simple operations on you most current data when you are away from your home computer/full version of the data file.

Maybe this will make it a be clearer:
    https://www.quicken.com/support/what-quicken-cloud

Your main data file is the .QDF file on your machine.  You can sync some of the information in that data file to the Quicken Cloud for "remote use", but it is neither the main data file or a "backup".  If you lose the main data file you can't "restore" from the "Quicken Cloud".

I did try it again. This time it did nothing on the cloud. It did so twice before.
I will also point out two things:
Here is where sync to Mobile/Web is turned on/off:
    Edit -> Preferences -> Mobile & Web

The second thing is that if you use Express Web Connect, then your transactions (partial to support the service) will be on both the "Quicken Cloud dataset/server" and the Intuit server.  Even though these transactions are in the Quicken Cloud dataset if sync to Mobile/Web is turned off they will not be visible from Mobile/Web.

The two products are different.  You certainly will not get the same features in both.  But most does overlap that is in fact the only reason that US users can even begin to try to help the Canadian users.
And percentage wise there are very few Canadian users posting on here to help.

    Hello @TaxationIsTheft,

I am very sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with your Quicken software! I would suggest you call our Quicken Support team so they can walk you through what it is you are wanting to do. They can also help you to cancel your subscription if that is what you end up deciding to do.
