How do I stop memorized payees from getting added automatically?

I have tried every setting I can find to prevent memorized payees from getting added, and yet they keep showing up automatically in the Memorized Payee List after I add a transaction to a register. I have had so many problems with memorized payees that I am done using them, yet Quicken doesn't seem to want me to be done.

Following.... why, because I feel your pain! Something has changed in the last few months to make memorized payees become such a pain. It didn't use to be like this, and I've used Quicken for 20+ years. Memorized payees are like a virus now!!!! : (

Go to Edit > Preferences > Data entry & Quickfill and un-check the Automatically memorize new payees box.

I appreciate the suggestion @Jim_Harman but unfortunately I already have that box unchecked.

I just tried it with my main file and the new payees are not added. You can try creating a new, empty Quicken file, set up one manual account, enter a few transactions with that setting on and off and see if they are added when they should not be.

Are either of you using Sync to Mobile/Web?

I know that memorized payees are synced to Mobile/Web and as such there might be a bug where even though you have that preference off, during that sync they don't "honor it".

I suggest you test the sync off for a while and see if that it it.

I tried entering an expense in the register with sync turned on and off and it didn't do anything with memorized payees at all either time. I'm totally baffled as to what could be causing this. It doesn't even seem to create them with any consistency. Growing tired of Quicken's little bugs that never seem to get resolved.

After some more trial and error, I have narrowed it down to the fact that memorized payees are getting automatically added when I make an entry from Quicken Mobile (as seems to be the issue in this post by MikeWagner: https://community.quicken.com/discussion/comment/20236519#Comment_20236519 ). Has anyone followed Chris_QPW's suggestion to make a New Idea post? If so, can you share the link? I'd like to upvote it or whatever else I can do to help draw attention to this obvious oversight/bug/issue/whatever you want to call it.
