How do I record a "mandatory exchange" of stock and preserve my basis in it?
Richard Kennedy
On 1/31/22, all of my shares in "BHP GROUP LTD" underwent a mandatory exchange for the same number of shares of "BHP GROUP PLC".
I am running Quicken for the Mac Version 6.5.3 (Build 605.42687.100) under macOS 11.6.4.

Hello
@Richard Kennedy
,
Thank you for contacting the Community with this question.
It sounds like one of your stocks had a mandatory name change and you are trying to have the transactions line up using the same name. You can do this by
editing the security and changing both the name and the symbol.
There is a chance that you could end up with two securities that hold the same name. In the event that this occurs, you can then merge those two securities. Just be cautious when picking the correct security to maintain.
I hope this helps. Please reach out with any further questions or concerns.
