I am overwhelmed about the amount of response received from my original question about how to fix the greyed out date addition to a backup file. Today I loaded the R 42.8, build update and backup behavior has been restored on my machine. You can now select any backup file names from prior use with the drop down box, and adding a sate is always available on first try. File does exist and is in the correct place. Thank you Quicken! I am satisfied with your fix.

The latest Quicken for Windows release R42.8 is now being made available in staged release format to a limited number of users. The rest of us have been pleading for a fix for weeks!

Just so people know, in my testing R42.8 does fix this problem.

If you want to install R42.8 you can get it from here:
